  1. The effect of Felix's Jump on his Heart Rate and Blood Pressure Reema Ahmed

  2. "You could get a true picture of how his body was transforming, adapting and performing in comparison to the different stresses and strains he was going through.“ -AnmolSood, Chief Executive of Equivital • Broke world record for skydiving (24 mi) • First person to break sound barrier without vehicular power on descent • Set altitude record for manned balloon flight • Set record for highest parachute jump altitude • Set record for greatest free fall velocity (843 mph)

  3. Physical Risks • Cardiovascular risk • Supersonic speed • Exposure (temperature) • External Pressure • Windduring ascent • UV radiation

  4. Heart Rate • Reached 843.6 mph • 185 bpm at exact time of jump • Maximum heart rate of a 35 y/o adult exercising • Felix was 43 y/o

  5. External Pressure • 63,000 ft • Water boils at 37°C, temperature of human body • Body fluid can boil (tears, saliva) • Blood won’t boil • Due to elastic pressure of blood vessels • Any crack could have made him susceptible to pressure • External pressure at this level could be deadly

  6. Flat Spin • Causes blood draw to Felix’s head and feet • Gives weightless feeling • Exceeds 4Gs • Builds up in skull, forces blood and spinal fluid out • Could escape through ocular cavity

  7. Jump Preparation • Heart rate averaged around 60 bpm that day • Measured during ascension • Heart rate reached 160-180 bpm • 3x normal rate for his age
