Welcome to Mrs. Bailey’s Second Grade Curriculum Night

Join us for Mrs. Bailey’s Second Grade Curriculum Night! Discover our engaging curriculum, including reading, math, and writing. Learn about homework folders, our positive behavior plan, and the importance of home-school communication. Each week, students will receive new spelling words and other materials to enhance their learning. Get involved in your child's education and support their growth with our weekly schedules and parent packets. Together, we will ensure a successful and exciting year in second grade!

  1. WELCOME! to Mrs. Bailey’s Second Grade Curriculum Night

  2. Homework Folders • Loaded Folder comes home on Monday • Go home each night (Mon.-Thurs.) • Spelling Words for week are included on Monday • Follow the schedule throughout the week (the schedule can be flexible!) • MAKE SURE TO TAKE OUT LAST WEEK’S HOMEWORK!!! 

  3. CARE SHEET Character Sticker Charts • Starts each week on a positive note! BEHAVIOR PLAN: • 1) Verbal Warning • 2) Tally Mark on Character Card/5 minutes of 2nd gr. Recess-A star cancels the tally mark • 3) Second tally mark/Miss entire recess. Teacher calls home. • 4) Third tally mark. Removal from class-parent, student, teacher conference • Home-school Parent Communication Journal • Goes home on Mondays! PLEASE: Sign and Return on Tuesday!

  4. Inside Your Parent Packet • Evaluating the Primary Student • Tax Credit Form • Daily Schedule of Room 23 • Student “Star” of the week Rotation

  5. Curriculum: Spelling • New words go home on Mondays. • The words go with our Reading Series. • This phonics skill is practiced all week. • Spelling Tests are on Fridays. • Spelling Activities are Built Into Homework! • Make sure to study the words with your child each week!!! 

Curriculum: Reading • Harcourt Trophies Reading Series • Author Studies • Word Work/Phonics Skills • Guided/Whole Group Instruction • DAILY 5 --- Small Group Reading Instruction • Parent/Student/Teacher Partnership • PLEASE make sure that your child reads OUT LOUD to you for at least 10 minutes per night!!! • Reading Material goes home Thursday for students to read in preparation for Friday’s test. PLEASE RETURN THESE BOOKS THE NEXT MORNING!!!  • Don’t forget to log these minutes in the Reading Log, located in the binder of the Homework Folder!

Curriculum: Math • Scott Foresman Series • Terc—Investigations (Abstract-Concrete) • Hands-on Manipulatives • Problem Solving Key Concepts Covered in Grade 2 • Mental Math Strategies • Graphing • Number Patterns/Number Sense • Money • Time • Adding/Subtracting 2-3 digit numbers with and without Regrouping • Fractions • Geometry • Measurement • Beginning Multiplication

Curriculum: Writing • Inventive Spelling  Real Life Spelling • 6+1 Trait Model • Narrative: Personal Story • Informative • Persuasive • Time Order Words: First, Then, Next, After that, Finally • Note: All 2nd Grade Curriculum can be seen in detail on the Chandler Unified School District Website! 
