  2. What is a young professional? • How old are they? • How young are they? • Do they need a college degree? • What careers do you want to represent? • How long will they last in your group? • How do you go after for young professionals? • What is success?

  3. The Answers??? • YPs are ages 22 to 39 traditionally, but that doesn’t have to be set in stone. • No, but the vast majority will have one. • Diversity of careers is a must. • Two to three years is the norm. • Target their needs and career goals • Let’s talk more about success.

  4. What we did with PULSE!

  5. The PULSE Successes • More than 900 members each of the past two years. • Eight different program to choose. • About 40 events each year. • Creating leaders: City Council, key commissions and boards, numerous award winners. • Opportunity to grow.

  6. Focus on leadership opportunities.Different types of networking such as sports.Hone in what is important to your community. We did arts. Lessons Learned

  7. Lessons Learned • Let young professionals lead themselves. • Invest in their abilities. • Unite them across industries. • Failure is not the end, but a learning experience.

  8. Potential Pitfalls • Rigid structure of organization. • Focusing on quantity over quality. • Not meeting the “market demands.” • Failing to see the forest through the trees.
