  1. Barcode Inventory System Information Brief / Demo Friday, 24 OCT 2008 Sherman Powell Inventory Management Solutions, Inc. CAGE Code: 54NN7

  2. The Problem • Proliferation of serial-numbered property and sensitive items in deployable units • Extensive delay between “facts on the ground” and “facts on the property book” • High OPTEMPO / DEPTEMPO • RESULTS: • Continuous, ongoing inventories • Lengthy reconciliation process between manual inventories and PBO / PBUSE printouts

  3. “State of Inventories” in Oct 2008 • Print PBUSE sensitive items report • Give to inventory officer, wish him / her luck • Finish one inventory just in time to start the next one • Hundreds of hours lost due to counting and recounting • “….We’re still looking for two RT-1523s…..” • “….Let me count your PLT’s sensitive items one more time…..” • No fundamental change in many years

  4. A complete software / hardware system • Over 1,500 installations in last 5yr • Over 300 in US Gov’t / Military units • One of many barcode / scanner software packages • Other examples: “Smartrack” Digital Arms Room (approx $45K-$60K per installation); fixed installation, corded scanner (not wireless)

  5. What it “is” • Stand-alone software package • Can be installed on 1 or more computers • Part of a system that includes: • Barcode labels • Self-generated: Paper, printed on laser printer • 3rd party: Urethane, sub-surface printed; or metallic “foil” labels, heat / impact resistant • Handheld scanner • Barcode label printer (optional)

  6. What it is “not” • Online (“hosted” on a website) • Hand receipt generator; does not substitute for process of creating and enforcing accountability documents • Replacement for good habits (recordkeeping)

  7. Advantages • 70% time savings over hand counting • Tremendous improvement in accuracy • Ability to manage an inventory from start to finish • “What haven’t we counted yet? Where is it?” • Ability to track asset history: • Home station, loadout, deployment, redeployment. • “What items are in this ISU-90?” • “When was the last time we saw it?”

  8. Demonstration
