There was only one problem: Alligator slept at the foot of the tree.    “What a predicament!” hollered Monkey. He thought for a moment andscratched his head. Then he remembered how easy it was to trick Alligator.Monkey had a great idea.    “Hey, Alligator!” Monkey called. “Let me see those big, white teeth of yours.”    Alligator knew better than to trust Monkey, but he was proud of his teeth,so he opened his mouth wide.    "Just as I thought!" Monkey said. "Too bad for you."    "What's wrong with my teeth?" Alligator asked.    "Why, they are yellow!" Monkey said. "You need a good cleaning!"    "Oh," Alligator said, snapping his mouth shut. "That's awful."    "You should get them cleaned." Monkey said.    "You're right," Alligator replied, "but who is cleverenough to clean alligator teeth?"    "It just so happens that I am," Monkey said. "Wouldyou like me to clean yours?"    Alligator happily agreed. Not only would he get histeeth cleaned, but he would eat Monkey for dinner.    Monkey gathered two large sticks and told Alligator,"Open wide. I have to prop your mouth open."    Monkey put the sticks into Alligator's mouth sothat Alligator couldn't close it. "Wait here while Iget my cleaning supplies," Monkey said.    Monkey jumped up into the mango tree and atemangoes until his tummy was full. Then hegathered as many as he could hold in his arms.He jumped down to the ground and ran until hewas far away from Alligator.    Later, Alligator's mother walked by andsaw her son with two large sticks holdinghis mouth open.    "What are you doing?" she asked.    "I'm getting my teeth cleaned!"Alligator said.    "Silly, Alligator," she replied."Monkey tricked you once again!"
