  2. Purified Drinking Water Project (PDWP) Aims • To Provide Purified drinking water to all 70 major villages with 3 Lakh rural people of Vemulawada constituency. • To contribute in improving Health & economic conditions of rural villages. • To provide employment to rural youth.

Objectives • To permanently provide clean drinking water to all rural villages as 21 percent of communicable diseases in India are water related (namely - cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, hepatitis A, malaria and filaria) and 75 per cent of water related deaths are that of children below five years. • To integrate all the poor in the program with 2 Rs per 20 L as they are target group • To contribute in improving the Health, Education & Economic conditions on the long run

Technology • Technology: A combination of technologies based on RO (Reverse Osmosis and UV) will be used to rid brackish water of pathogens, particulates, and dissolved impurities, especially fluoride and salinity.   • Health + Hygiene education: We work through intensive campaigns on health and personal hygiene to educate rural communities on the need to store water carefully, adopt hygienic sanitation practices and avoid contaminating water resources. This in turn helps to influence rural people to adopt safe water and creates demand from villages / panchayats to implement our Water programme.

  6. Implementation • This project had started in Vemulawada Constituentacy in five Mandals Vemulawada, Konaraopet, Chandurthy, Kathalapur and Medipally. 50 plants are covering 4000 people on average with about 38 thousand houses with a population of 2.0 lakhs.

  8. Roles & Responsibility - Grampanchayat • Provide building. • Provide bore water connection. • Provide current meter connection with 6b category. • Signing of MoU with Grampanchayat team.

Roles & Responsibility - SEWS • Provide 1000 LPH plant • 2 storage tanks – 5000 lts each, • Plant installation and running expenses. • Conduct awareness programmes in the villages on regular basis • 2 Rs per 20 L to reach every household in the village with purified drinking water on regular basis.

  10. Pricing • Rs. 60/- per card (20 liters can) for 30 cans per month • Rs. 45/- per card (12 liters can) for 30 cans per month

Monitoring & Evaluations • Daily field visits by Field Officer and also the Project Manager makes Sudden visits to the plants. • Collecting feed back from the users, village leaders, RMPs. • Conducting Social Audit from external agencies. • Regular Meetings to secure Sustainability of the Project.

Impact of this Project • More than 2.00 lakhs people are using PDW. • Covering 5 Mandals with 50 villages along with 29 small hamlets. • 69.5% of the villagers are using the PDW. • RMP and Doctors report substantial decrease in water related diseases; Data collection reveals significant positive results • Supporting other projects like Sakshar Bharathi by providing stationeries & black boards. • Provided employment to 55 rural youths in PDWP. • Providing PDW to School Children @ Rs 1/- for 20 liters can. • Provided 1.00 Lakh liters of PDW free to the Temple poojas during Annadanam programmes.
