  1. A Vision for the DC Area Vision is what moves us! A Work in Progress, Not Completed, Not Fully Understood TCC, UCO, & other SOS groups Groups of Committed Disciples Living Lives of Faithfulness Welcoming Others to Our Life Interceding for the D.C. Area

  2. Isaiah 54:2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.”

  3. Key Components A Vision of Something Bigger A tent that will hold more people It takes work to move tent pegs! Are we ready to stretch our tent curtains & lengthen our cords? The Lord has said, “I am doing something new. Do you perceive it?”

  4. Expanding the Tent • How can we move the tent pegs? • We need to build greater capacity for growth in TCC • Two districts, so that people can join this body & be cared for well. • Visitation team: “structure won’t allow for growth”

  5. Question: Are we talking to other leaders about two districts? The centurion: “I know how to lead/take authority and I know how to be under authority.” This is true for TCC. Jerry’s guidance to have two districts Mike’s comment: “Sounds like a reasonable structure for a couple of years!” Discuss/observe Pitt, Ohio, GR, AA

  6. A Vision of… 200 in our Frederick District 200 in a DC District 100 in University Christian Outreach Can you perceive it? Question: Is this a sense, a word, or an inclination? Is it too small for God? The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few!

  7. The Frederick District… • Led by Tom Hudson, District Coordinator • Sue Heuver, District SWL • Virtually all of our current men’s and women’s groups • Those who lead DG and serve as Pastoral Workers report to Tom and Sue

  14. Question: Where will our Mission Leaders live? About a mile from UMD campus Men’s house for the three guys & hopefully one more. Women’s house with Maureen, Theresa & Kate Smith, Mary Domalski, & hopefully Chelsea Duff.

  15. When UCOers graduate… Most won’t move to Frederick or even Gaithersburg or Rockville If they get jobs in the DC area, we want them to join us. Some want community! Question: have we thought about transition from UCO to community? As a Junior, invited to formation classes As a Junior/Senior, some may choose to become a TCC Affiliate in DC district

  16. Question: Who’s in the DC District? Led by Jeff Smith, District Coor Jeanne Smith, District SWL Who’s are members of the DC District? Two graduates, four missionaries, & two other women Any UCO member who makes an Affiliate or Underway Commitment to TCC

  17. But it will just become a separate community! • Not if we build wisely & intentionally. • Need to build a bridge. • 2013-14: a one lane bridge. • In future years, expand it!

  18. Question: What are our plans to build active connections? • DC District Underway Members will come to two Frederick Prayer meetings per month • If in UCO still, DC District Affiliate Members will come to one prayer meeting per month. • If graduated, DC Affiliates commit themselves to come to prayer meetings regularly.

  19. Members of Frederick District also build the bridge Lead Formation at UCO and post-UCO. Provide pastoral care for Affiliates and Underway members. Who? Rita Keilty, Jeff & Jeanne, Brendan, Jenn, Sophie… Part of their job is to give vision of one body.

  20. Question: Who are Sid and Colleen O’Neill? A young couple moving to TCC in August or September Members of the Frederick District, i.e. likely in Paul’s men’s group and Sue’s women’s group Invite them and young people over to your homes!

  21. Sid & Colleen O’NeillChrist the Redeemer, MN

  22. Some thoughts re: Frederick 1 Corinthians 3:6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.

  23. God’s Part & Our Part We have work to do: planting, watering, weeding… It may feels as if we do all of the work… But God makes it grow! This is a promise that we can count on!

  24. We need to water and planthere in Frederick! We must evangelize here in Frederick We cannot simply rely on UCO Build genuine friendships… it takes time Get over hurdles in our minds Invite folks to prayer meeting and Lord’s Days… and invite them again! Ask God for grace to grow!

  25. Question: What should I invite people to? What is TCC’s front door? Prayer meeting! Where we worship Jesus Christ, hear from God, and witness to His power and love. We want to start a Life in the Spirit Who would you invite to a LIS? Invite them to prayer meeting now. God will make grow if we will plant and water!

  26. Other Questions… Why not put all of our resources here in Frederick? UCO is a critical factor to grow. In Frederick, we are investing resources. Are there any other communities that have our challenges? Yes and no. Each situation is different. Small communities with young districts: Ohio, Grand Rapids, now Maryland

  27. Question: What can I do to help “build the bridge?” Every time a UCO or post-UCO member is at the prayer meeting or Lord’s Day… Invite people to prayer meeting and LDs. Invite new couples and singles for dinner. Discuss in your m/w group or with PW. Pray and intercede! Build this end of the bridge well! How? Live our life well and welcome people into our life.

  28. Finally… Make yourself available for God’s purposes! Live your life every day as the Lord has called us: daily life, faithfulness, loving your family, praying every day, building up the body... Take every opportunity to serve, reach out to others, expend your life on Jesus.
