The relationship nature • CEOs and CIOs often see the relationship between business and information differently. • CEOs have a broad span of control, with IT just one of many priorities. • CIOs’ have technology and operations focus, which doesn’t always allow them to show traditional business leadership styles and behaviors. • The difference between how the CEO views this relationship & how the CIO views it creates the potential for a dangerous disconnect, limiting the value generated by information technology and the power of the executive team.

When CEOs and CIOs treat each other as if they’re from different planets • companies are potentially lose an essential components of its business plan: • the ability to apply the latest technology smartly and innovatively • better quality , flexibility and higher productivity through using CAD , CAM and FMS • Better decisions and performance through applying CRM , SCM and KMS • the ability to cope with competition and to meet customer needs .

Solutions • Learn business language : CIOs should learn new language dollars and cents Learning to speak the CEO's language can bridge the Credibility gap and it is also critical, so that the CIO can translate technology's capabilities into successful business solutions. • Clear roles to avoid conflict This involves how the CEO structures the management of a company — especially where the CIO sits in the decision-making • Communication: Communication includes how persuasively and intelligently CIOs express the technology agenda to the press, industry executives, investors, and employees in light of the company’s business ,return on investments, sales, manufacturing, and marketing plans. • Rational Strategic planning : avoid The risk of screwing up (with technology) in the light of very fast changing technological advances which set high pressure on the CIO's technology decisions. And Trying to avoid being trapped in a new technology fad.
