  5. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Providence

  6. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Labor Disputes When there is a labor dispute between a union and management, whose side do you generally take – union or management?

  7. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Hotel Worker Minimum Wage Ballot Measure A potential ballot measure that may appear on the November ballot in Providence would require Providence hotels of 25 rooms or more to pay all hotel employees a minimum wage of $15 per hour. At this point, how do you feel about this proposal?

  8. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Support: There are 10 hotels in Providence. Two hotels – the Omni and the Biltmore – pay their housekeepers around $15 an hour. This proposal would level the playing field for workers at all large hotels who do the same job.

  9. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Support: Many Providence housekeepers start at $8.50 per hour, before taxes, which is less than some babysitters make. The initiative would amount to an approximately $1.85 increase in pay for each room a housekeeper cleans.

  10. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Support: There are approximately 1000 Providence hotel workers. Most of them live in Providence. An increase in their wages would mean they have more money to invest in their homes and to spend in local businesses in their neighborhoods.

  11. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Support: Only hotels that have 25 rooms or more will be covered by this initiative. Most are owned by large institutional companies that can afford to pay a minimum wage to their hotel workers. The initiative exempts small hotels and B&Bs.

  12. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Oppose: If Providence raises the minimum wage to $15 per hour for hotel workers, visitors may stay in other cities where hotel prices are lower, which will hurt our tax revenue and we will lose jobs and convention business.

  13. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Oppose: This proposition is being paid for by the labor unions who are just trying to give big hotels a headache so they will make their employees join the union and increase the amount of dues the union collects. Now these unions are pushing another job-killing policy that will hurt our struggling economy even more.

  14. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Reasons to Oppose: This ordinance also covers hotel restaurants which are not part of the hotel industry. Hotel restaurants will not be able to compete with free-standing restaurants like the ones in our community. Tipped workers such as bartenders, waiters, and waitresses already make good money and shouldn’t get $15 per hour on top of their tips.

  15. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Hotel Worker Minimum Wage Ballot Measure Based on everything you have heard do you strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose a proposal that would require Providence hotels of 25+ rooms to pay all hotel employees a $15 per hour minimum wage?

  16. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Before and After Comparison

  17. ΔΑΠΑ Research Inc. - May 2014 Broadbase Support of $15 Minimum Wage
