  3. National Statistics • 9.2 victims per 1,000 children • Actual number likely higher because not every case is reported and not all cases are substantiated

  4. National Statistics • 1,537 fatalities in 2012 • The younger the children the more vulnerable they are to fatality resulting from abuse/neglect • 80% of fatalities are four years old or less • 81% of perpetrators are parents

National Statistics • “The estimated average lifetime cost per victim of nonfatal child maltreatment is $210,012 in 2010 US dollars.” • Financial burdens are also correlated to victims of child maltreatment by productivity losses and criminal justice costs. • Research accounts for an approximation of $585billion in total costs for child maltreatment.

Projects-Awareness • Ask your mayor or city council, to issue a CAP Month proclamation- NEC Can Help • Write a letter to the editor- NEC Can Help • Get a radio or TV PSA • Blue Ribbon displays on the courthouse, city hall, police department uniforms, firefighter uniforms or hospital uniforms. • Create a blue ribbon tree in a prominent place. • Create a Billboard

Projects-Direct Service • Backpack meal programs/Stuff the Bus • Sponsor a family at holiday times • Create a family themed holiday event, e.g. St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day • Support summer lunch programs for kids • Partner with local hospital to provide new mothers/babies a bottle, blanket and literature about effective parenting.

Projects-Direct Service • Needy children’s care bags (blanket, stuffed animal, age appropriate book) Provide to a specific population of children in your community including shelter children, disaster victims, at domestic disturbance call (distributed by law enforcement), or any other needy high risk population. • Positive Starts Event

  17. Projects-Funds • Silent or Live Auctions with proceeds going to specialty need • Other entertainment events: Live concert, BBQ, 5k Run, or Golf outing • Reverse Raffle Event

  18. Volunteer at an Exchange CAP Center, Affiliate Site, or other agency – agencies need many types of volunteers: • Parent Aide or Mentor • Computer technical assistance • Board of Directors • Help with special events • Maintenance • Physical improvements, e.g. painting or repair • Fundraising

  19. Exchange Club CAP Centers • All Exchange Club CAP Centers are sponsored by one or more Local Exchange Clubs • All Exchange Centers provide the Exchange Parent Aideprogram. • Additional programs offered in most communities
