  1. How Do Body Systems Work Together The muscular, skeletal and nervous system working together to create movement.

  2. Standards & Objectives The instructional objectives for this project will be for student to be able to describe how the muscular, nervous and skeletal systems work together in order to cause movement. This project will satisfy Michigan’s Science Curriculum; L.OL.05.41 – Identifying the general purpose of selected animal systems L.OL.05.42-Explain how animal systems work together to perform selected task

  3. Introduction This STaIR is designed for grade level 5 science introductory lesson on Body Systems. You have to navigate through this project alone. At the conclusion of this lesson you should show mastery of how the Nervous, Muscular and Skeletal systems work together to create movement. Watch the “ Nervous, Skeletal and Muscle ”video provided for you as an overview of the systems working together. Pay close attention, you will need to move your mouse cursor toward the middle of the page to engage the video. Explore the interactive activities for each body system after the definition slides. The definitions are highlighted in yellow for your convenience. Test your knowledge on what you have learned at the end. Have fun.

  4. Nervous, skeletal and muscular system Move the mouse cursor to the middle of page to the engage video and press play.

  5. The skeletal system How the Skeletal System Functions: Skeletal system provides a structure for the body. It includes a vertebrae of spine and supports upper body and head. Types of Bones Irregular bones-vertebrae bones or bones found in the face. Small bones – bones found in the legs and arms Short bones-bones found in the wrist and ankles Flat bones- Found in the skull and the rib cage

  6. The anatomy of a bone

  7. Moving and GrowingExploring the skeletal System

  8. Nervous system The nervous system is the connecting system made up of billions of nerve cells or neurons (nerves) that are controlled by the brain. The brain sends and receives information about what is going on in the body. The nervous system has two main parts; The Central Nervous System - is made up of the brain and the spinal cord. The brain is in charge. It sends and receives messages through the nerves to control all body functions. The Peripheral Nervous System - job is to carry message to and from the central nervous system. It’s core functions are to send information to the brain and carry out orders from the brain

  11. The muscle system The muscle system functions in two ways: Voluntary muscle functions are muscles movement you can control. Most voluntary muscles move your bones around. When you run, walk, ride a bike or play video games, your voluntary muscles move your arms, legs and body around when the brains sends them signals. Involuntary muscle functions are muscle movement that don’t need any brain signals to do their job. Your heart beating, breathing and food moving through the digestion system are all involuntary muscle functions.

  12. Types of muscles Muscles help to move parts of your body around. Your body has three types of muscles: Skeletal muscles are attached to your bones and it is there job to move your bones. Cardiac muscles are a type of striated muscle that help form the walls surrounding the heart. Smooth muscles are made up of long thin cell with a single nucleus and no cross strips
