UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO AN EXAMPLE OF ACTIVITY EVALUATION AND KNOWLEDGE TESTING – MAXIMUM OF 100% If grade I is a failing grade, the student cannot take the second quiz – i.e. activity 7. Instead, a student takes the whole first part of the examination. Passing grade on this part of the examination enables the student to enter the final knowledge testing. 7а. UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO AN EXAMPLE OF ECTS-CREDIT CALCULATION AND ASSIGNING • BASIC INFORMATION : • Number of workweeks in a year:45 • Total Workload 45*40 hours 1800 hours • Number of hours per one credit 30 hours • Workload per analyzed course150 hours Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 38
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO AN EXAMPLE OF ECTS-CREDIT CALCULATION AND ASSIGNING Load expressed in number of hours: 150Assigned ECTS points/credits: 150/30 = 5 Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 39
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO THE EVALUATION OF STUDENT LOAD • Introduction of courses • One can distinguish non-modulated systems(each course is considered separately) and modulated systems(several courses with the same number of ECTS credits, 5 for instance). • The load per course is determined on the basis of defined individual work assignments, which the student is expected to do in one course. Work assignments are defined in accordance with the knowledge, skills and competence that the student is expected to gain through the course. Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 40
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO THE EVALUATION OF STUDENT LOAD • The activities on the basis of which student • load is estimated • Each course is based on certain teaching • activities- work obligations. • Teaching activities: lectures, theoretical exercises, practical exercises, laboratory exercises, computer exercises, controlled project assignments, etc. Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 41
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO THE EVALUATION OF STUDENT LOAD • Learning activities and preparations: lecture and exercise attendance, specified short tests, practical and laboratory exercises, book and magazine reading, learning how to analyze other students’work critically, how to find literature on the Internet. • Knowledge testing: oral examinations, written examinations, tests, quizzes, oral presentations, continual assessments through tests during practical exercises, etc. Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 42
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO THE EVALUATION OF STUDENT LOAD The teacher decides on what the necessary time for each activity in the teaching process should be. Total estimated time should be equivalent to the number of ECTS credits per given course. • Students’ opinions on the estimated loadThere are various methods for testing whether the estimated load is appropriate. Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 43
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO THE EVALUATION OF STUDENT LOAD Anonymous questioners are usually used: students fill in those while their course is still in progress or after it is finished and examinations passed. • The change of load or teaching activities and obligations • If it is determined that student load is not estimated well while teaching process is still underway, load (ECTS credits) and/or teaching activities and obligations should be changed. Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 44
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO PROBLEMS REGARDING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ECTS • PROBLEM OF THE BIGGER NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN RELATION TO THAT OF THE TEACHERS: HOW TO ACHIEVE QUALITY TEACHING PROCESS? • THE NON-EXISTANCE OF SIGNED PROTOCOLS ONSTUDENT EXCHANGE- THIS PREVENTS THE ECTSCREDITS TO BE IMPLEMENTED EFFICIENTLY, • FINANCIAL PROBLEMS, ETC.. Tuzla, 16-17/02/2006 Page 45
UNIVERSITY OF EAST SARAJEVO FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES • THE APPOINTMENT OF THE COMMISSION FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REFORM (WHICH INCLUDES ECTS REFORM) AT THE UNIVERSITY, • LECTURES AT THE FACULTIES- REGARDING THE ECTS IMPLEMENTATION, • THE FORMATION OF CURRICULA TEAMS, • THE FORMATION OF ECTS TEAMS, • THE FORMATION OF DIPLOMA SUPPLEMENT TEAMS, • THE APPOINTMENT OF THE COORDINATOR FOR THE MAKING OF THE CURRICULA, • THE APPOINTMENT OF THE ECTS COORDINATOR.
