Your Blood Pressure • According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 1.13 billion people worldwide have hypertension. 1 in every 3 American adults have high blood pressure and the number just keeps rising due to the rise in unhealthy diet and lifestyle. • Hypertension or otherwise known as high blood pressure is defined as having a blood pressure reading of more than 140/90 mmHg over a number of weeks. • Our blood pressures change all the time throughout the day, so to make sure that you have high blood pressure your doctor should make sure that your hypertensive reading is not just a one-off thing.

  3. Your Blood Pressure • If you do have high blood pressure or pre-hypertensive which the condition of having a blood pressure between 120/80 mmHg and 139/89 mmHg, it is considered an indication of risk for hypertension. • Prehypertension is a warning sign that you may get high blood pressure in the future. • High blood pressure increases your risk of stroke, heart attack, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and kidney failure if left untreated.

  5. Eat more Fruits and Vegetables • There's a special diet to cure hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and that is to increase your vegetables and fruits intake. • The reason for that is vegetables have a lot of fiber and vitamins which helps keep your body healthy.

  6. Avoid Processed Foods in the Grocery and Fast Foods • Processed foods like potato chips, soda and frozen pizzas are full of salt, sugar and fat. • If you have hypertension, it is prudent to avoid fast foods and the processed foods in your local grocery.

  7. Reduce Your Salt Intake • It is important to reduce your salt intake to less than 5g a day to help reduce your blood pressure. Salt makes your body hold on to water. • If you consume too much salt, the extra water stored in your body raises your blood pressure. • Also, change your salt to sea salt rather than use the synthetic type as sea salt has more minerals that our body needs.

  8. Exercise on a Regular Basis • To help lower your stress and blood pressure, it is crucial to exercise more. • Walking for a few minutes a day can do wonders for your body and can also help lower your blood pressure. Try to get at least 30 minutes of exercise everyday. • Try to use the stairs instead of using the elevator if you can, that is just one simple way to get your exercise everyday.
