Colossians 1:9-11 “… asking God to fill you with the knowledgeof His willin all wisdom and spiritual understanding… to live a life worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of Christ, strengthened with all power for great endurance and patience … “

  6. I. Our CHARACTER Question 1: What is God’s Goal for you as a PERSON? Romans 8:29 “For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son”

  7. I. Our CHARACTER Question 2: How am I conformed to the image of Christ? Luke 9:23 (Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”)

  8. I. Our CHARACTER This is our Journey in Brokenness It occurs as we obey Luke 9:23 resulting in the molding of the faculties of our inner-man CarnalvsSpirit-LedResponse.. But….How?

  9. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 “Now may the God of Peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole Spirit, Soul, andBodybe preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ”. Sanctification is “holistic”; i.e. covers the totality of human being

  11. I. Our CHARACTER Question 3: How are the faculties of our soul i.e. Mind, Emotion & Will “molded”, “broken”, “dealt with by God”?

  12. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man SOUL (1) Natural Mind not willing to yield Cynicism stubbornness opinionated mindset full of self human wisdom of the world. Suspicious cleverness Skeptical argumentative

  13. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man SOUL (1) Renewed Mind Our mind must be daily renewed after the mind of Christ. “…be not fashioned according to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind….” Rom: 12:1-2 “….But WE have the mind of Christ!” 1 Cor 2:16

  14. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man SOUL (2) Natural Emotion jealously mood swings insecure fits of rage lusts impatience feelings envy strife easily swayed low self-image / esteem Cannot rejoice with other’s success Need to boast / defend self vs have nothing to prove

  15. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man SOUL (2) Spirit-Led Emotion Our emotions must be surrenderedto the Holy Spirit. He will temper our emotions …to manifest the fruit of the Spirit… “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control” Galatians 5:22, 23

  16. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man SOUL (3) Natural Will biased Stubborn reaction from hurts foolish prejudiced not wise unenlightened uninformed not according to the Word, the Will & the Ways of God.

  17. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man SOUL (3) Yielded Will (Colossians 1:9-10) Our will must be aligned with God. We then have the knowledge, spiritual wisdom and spiritual understandingto make correct enlightened decision and choices.

  18. I. Our CHARACTER Question 4: How can the faculties of our spirit-man (i.e. our relationship, conscience and discernment) be strengthened?

  19. I. Our CHARACTER The Holy Spirit strengthening my RELATIONSHIP with God (2 Corinthians 13:14) via 1. Intake of the Word 2. Growing Prayer Communion 3. Building our altar of Thanksgiving, Praise and Worship Inner-Man-SPIRIT Relationship “The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the harmony of the Holy Spirit, be with you all”.2 Corinthians 13:14

  20. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man-SPIRIT The Holy Spirit sensitizing my CONSCIENCE. Conscience 1 Timothy 1:19 “having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck”

  21. I. Our CHARACTER Inner-Man-SPIRIT The Holy Spirit sharpening my DISCERNMENT. Discernment Hebrews 5:14 “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil”.

  22. WORLD Summary - Our CHARACTER OUTER-MAN INNER-MAN SPIRIT Relationship Conscience Discernment BODY 5 Senses SOUL Mind Emotion Will Expressed in my living in all my responses and decisions to be more like Christ

  23. Character transformation Philippians 3:10-11 “I want to know Christ … the power of His resurrection … the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Himin His death … to attain to the resurrection from the dead”.

Our Personal Obstacles & Hindrances Unhealed hurts Unresolved issues Unmet needs Certain Possessions Certain Activities Family not in order Certain Relationships [Hebrews 12:1] “as we are circled by so great a cloud of witnesses, putting off every weight, and the sin into which we come so readily, let us keep on running in the way which is marked out for us”

  25. III. Core-Values • Core-Values are CONVICTIONS you develop and they become your GUIDING PRINCIPLES in life. • Your Core-Values must be ALIGNED with the Word of God.

Examples of Personal Core-Values Positive Attitudes Always Learning Grow in Faith Perseverance Seek Counsel Walk in Obedience Accountability Integrity Discretion Faithfulness Hard Work Be Willing to Yield Spirit of Excellence Christ - the Center of life Deep sense of being loved and accepted by God Nothing happens by chance Firm belief in the Sovereignty of God

  27. Our Conductcomprises:- 1. Our underlying ATTITUDES (in terms of the way we posture and in body language). 2. Our actual BEHAVIOUR (in terms of the way we relate, act and respond to others). Our Conduct (life style) reflects our Core-Values & Convictions, and is influenced by our Character and our Personal Hindrances

Personal Conduct (life style) Issues We must aim i.e. set goals to have: (a) A CONSCIENCE“void of offense (no reason for shame) before God and towards men”. - Acts 24:16 (b) Intentionally put SAFEGUARDS in the areas of vulnerability in our personal conduct “give attention to yourself”. - 1 Timothy 4:16 Guard the 3 Gs, 3 Ws, 3Ss

  29. Summary: Destiny - Destination God has planned for you & I :- i. To be a certain type of PERSON (Romans 8:29) ii. To fulfill His particular PURPOSE (Ephesians 1:11; 2:10) WHO am I becoming? Am I fulfilling God’s CALL AND PURPOSE for my life? “to be conformed to the image of his Son” Your Personal Destiny

CALL AND PURPOSE Ephesians 1:11  ”in whom also we were made a heritage, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his will” Ephesians 2:10  ”For by his act we were given existence in Christ Jesus to do those good works which God before made ready for us so that we might do them”.

  32. Life Style Evangelism Live a life that has heard the Voice of God that defines who we are and what we were born to do. Do not consume your life in aimless pursuits and activities. Live a Life of Purpose. Pursue the destiny God planned for you

  33. Conclusion Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the Gospel of the Grace of God”.
