  1. The Electromagnetic Spectrum Project Objective: To develop a deeper understanding of each type of wave in the electromagnetic spectrum Project Task: Create three products detailing the electromagnetic spectrum. You will create: 1) a mnemonic 2) a story 3) visual illustration

  2. Part 1 - mnemonic • Create a mnemonic to help you remember the order of the waves of the electromagnetic spectrum (make sure it makes sense) • A mnemonic is a device, such as a pattern of letters, that is designed to aid the memory • Radio – Microwave – Infrared – Visible – Ultraviolet – X Ray - Gamma • Real - Men - In - Violet – Underwear (are) EXtremely - Gorgeous

  3. Part 1 – mnemonic example JacFaget Ms. Gregory Science, 2-26-14 Electromagnetic Spectrum Project - Mnemonic Real - Men - In - Violet – Underwear (are) EXtremely - Gorgeous This is how you should turn your mnemonic in!

  4. Part 2 - Story • Write a story describing the electromagnetic spectrum • Your story should include: • All 7 types of electromagnetic waves • Each type of wave must be used correctly (use is based on its characteristics) View “How to Remember the Electromagnetic Spectrum” on YouTube to see an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekZ7693DFf0

  5. Part 2 – Story Example JacFaget Ms. Gregory Science, 2-26-14 Electromagnetic Spectrum Project – Story Once upon a time, there was a dog whose nickname was Radio. His friends called him Radio because he never stopped talking and talking. He talked longer than anyone else with the lowest voice that could be heard. Radio’s best buddy was MW, short for microwave. MW was unique in that she only liked to eat heated food (she never ate ice cream …… This is how you should turn your story in!

  6. Part 3 – Color Illustration • Draw a picture that accurately illustrates your story • Your picture mustbe in color • Your illustration can be put on copy paper • No pencil!!

  7. Part 3 – Color IllustrationExample This might be similar to your color illustration

  10. Project Rubric ____ Mnemonic is creative and includes all 7 waves in order (14 points) ____ All 7 waves have been included in story (7 pts) ____ Waves have been used correctly (based on characteristics of the waves) (7 pts) ____ The story is cohesive and provides a good way to remember the EM spectrum (7 pts) ____ Illustration accurately represents the story (7 pts) ____ Illustration is in color (6 pts) ____ No pencil (2 pts)
