Section 1 -- Name • The name of this organization is the Student Sections Committee (SSC), a committee of ASME
Section 2 -- Purpose • Act as single focal point for student activities • Assist is coordinating student activities • Advance professional development • Resource center for students • Promote technical division involvement** • Present students views to ASME • Promote upgrading** ** Major change in emphasize

Section 4 – Voting Members** • One senior member from each NA district** • One senior member from non-NA districts** • One student member from each NA district** • Two student members from non-NA districts** • Four Members-at-Large** • Four holdover student members at SAM**
Section 5 – Senior Representatives • Corporate members of ASME • Chosen by district leaders • Three year term starting at SAM • Must have student activities experience
Section 6 – Student Representatives • Student members of ASME • Chosen by students from their district • One year term starting at SAM** • Four holdovers selected at IMECE**
Section 7 – Term Coordination • District leaders inform Student Operations of SSC representatives • Members may have consecutive terms

Section 9 - Chair • Elected at IMECE from senior reps, excluding present chair • Three year term starting at SAM • Chair remains as senior rep for district** • Presides at all meetings of SSC, except when vice-chair shall preside • Appoints and dissolves all subcommittees • Makes assignments to members and subcommittees
Section 10 – Vice-chair • Elected at each meeting from student reps, excluding present or previous vice-chair • “Half” year term starting at end of meeting • Assume duties of chair if chair is unable to • Preside over meeting for “one-half day”

Section 12 – Election of Officers/Liaisons • Secretary elected every meeting as one of the first items of business • Vice-chair elected at each regular meeting • Chair elected at every third IMECE • Liaisons elected by SSC or subcommittee of SSC or appointed by chair • Majority vote required for election
Section 13 – Officer Vacancy • Chair vacancy 1. Vice-chair assumes duties until next regular meeting 2. New chair is elected at next meeting • Vice-chair vacancy 1. New vice-chair elected at next meeting • Liaison – new selection as per Chair
Section 14/15 - Meetings • Regular meeting at SAM and IMECE • Chair may call special meeting • Chair may conduct a poll • Agenda distributed at least one week prior
Section 16 – Quorum • A quorum consist of at least one-half plus one of the members
Section 17 – Action Items • Presented to full SSC at regular meetings • Discussion and voting in accordance with SSC bylaws and Robert’s Rules of Order • A majority of a quorum of members required to pass Action Items
Section 18 - Participation • Regular meetings are open to public • Guest are encouraged to contribute to discussion
Section 19 - Amendments • Two-thirds majority vote of a quorum of members • Proposed amendment shall be distributed at least seven days prior to vote**
Section 20/21 Adoption and Suspension • Two-thirds vote of members of NSSC required to adopt bylaws • Three-quarter majority vote of a quorum of members required to suspend bylaws
