  1. MIA U3D3 Warmup: Find the first five terms for each recursive sequence. 1. NEXT = NOW +7; START = 1 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 2. NEXT = NOW*3; START = 6 6, 18, 54, 162, 486 3. NEXT = NOW*2 + 4; START = -2 -2, 0, 4, 12, 28

  2. Homework Check:

  3. HW Cont:

  4. Explicit Rules and Functions: Objective: To write a input-output rule that describes a relationship between two quantities AND test for functions.

  5. B B C Complete Input-Out Machine Mini-Quiz as a Classwork sheet within 5 minutes

  6. Now-Next to Input-Output • Write a NOW-NEXT equation for the sequence. Then complete the input-out equation for the sequence. 5, 7, 9, 11, 13… Next = Now + 2; Start at 5 Output = Input * 2 + 5 Now compare the Now-Next and the Input- Output rules. What do you notice?

  7. Now-Next to Input-Output • Write a NOW-NEXT equation for the sequence. Then complete the input-out equation for the sequence. 1.5, 2.7, 3.9, 5.1, 6.3… Next = Now + 1.2; Start at 1.5 Output = Input * 1.2 + 1.5 Now compare the Now-Next and the Input- Output rules. What do you notice?

  8. One to One= A function  1 2 3 4 5 5 6 7 8 9     The Rule is ‘ADD 4’

  9. Not a function Paris London Dubai New York Cyprus Ahmed Peter Ali Jaweria Hamad     Has Visited There are MANY arrows from each person and each place is related to MANY People. It is a MANY to MANY relation.

  10. FUNCTION Person Has A Mass of Kg  Bilal Peter Salma Alaa George Aziz 62 64 66      In this case each person has only one mass, yet several people have the same Mass. This is a MANY to ONErelationship

  11. Not a function Is the length of cm object  Pen Pencil Ruler Needle Stick  14 30    Here one amount is the length of many objects. This is a ONE to MANY relationship

  12. FUNCTIONS • Many to One Relationship • One to One Relationship

  13. Function - Domain and Range! x2x+1 A B 0 1 2 3 4 1 3 5 7 9 Domain Range

  14. Which Are Functions? (b) (a) (d) (c) (a) and (c)

  15. Test for functions Complete TESTING for FUNCTIONS WS Together Representing functions with tables, graphs, and equations. In Tables and graphs – x’s CAN NOT repeat or it is NOT a function Vertical Line Test

  16. Assignment: CW: U3D3 Vertical Line Test WS HW: Pizzazz WS 175 – Is It A Function?
