  1. THE STATUS OF TURKISH LIGHT SOURCE Dr. Zafer Nergiz NigdeUniversity

  2. Outline • TheGoals of themachine • New storage ring designparameters • Synchrotronradiation • Comparison of otherlightsourceswith TURKAY • Conclusion Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  3. The goals of the storage ring suggested after LSUM-2012 (Light Source User Meeting) • 3 GeV electron beam energy • Low emittance; below 1 nm rad • Short circumference; below 500 m • A new ring is designed according to the suggestions in user meeting • Linear and nonlinear effects are investigated • The radiation properties are investigated. • Some special cases (such as 0 dispersion) options are compared Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  4. The Parameters and Lattice of The storage ring The storage ring is composed with 18 main cells Main cell consists of 4 bending magnets and 4 different type 16 quadrupol magnets. The circumference is 467 m Natural horizantalemittance is 0.68 nm rad. The number of straight section is 18 Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  5. BeamParameters The working point is chosen where the third order resonance driving terms and tune shifts are as small as possible. 6 families of sextupol are used to correct chromaticity and to compensate nonlinearities. The length of straight sections is 6 m. The bending magnets are 1.8 m length and the magnetic field in the bending magnets is 0.48 T Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  6. BeamParameters vs. Momentum offset DQxandDQy,Emittance, Betax, Betay, vs. momentum deviation Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  7. Touschek Lifetime One of the issuesof a low emittancestorage ring is Touschek lifetime Touschek lifetime is 10.2 hfor 3.5 MV rfvoltage. It is planned to operate the machine in top-upmode Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  8. Nonlinear Beam Dynamics: Tracking According to MADX simulation the shape deformation of phase ellipse start x=0.015 m and y=0.01 m Phase space tracking in the horizontal and vertical plane at the center of straight section (1000turn) Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  9. Nonlinear Beam Dynamics: Dynamic aperture The dynamic aperture is the stable transverse area for the particle safely without getting defused or lost. a) Dynamical aperture for different momentum offset without magnet error (%3, %0 , %-3) b) Effects of magnet errors to the dynamical aperture (1024 turn) Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  10. NonlinearBeam Dynamics: FMA Frequency Map Analysis (FMA) is a numerical method which is a possible way to understand the effect of resonance to the dynamic aperture. Diffusion rate of frequency map analyses from tracking results. (the colors are for log10(Dnx+Dny)) (1024 turn). Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  11. SynchrotronRadiation In-vacuum undulator (IU), Cryogenic permanent-magnet undulator (CU) Superconducting insertion devices (SU) Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  12. Effects of the insertion devices Effects of the ID to the emittance and energy spreead investigated by the formula; where Effect of the CU18 to the emittance and energy spread Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  13. Zerodispersionoption In zero dispersion option the emittance is 1.18 nm rad Betax=17 m, Betay=7 m Other parameters approx same Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  14. Middle dispersionoption In middle dispersion option the emittance is 0.85 nm rad Betax=15 m, Betay=7 m, Dx=0.06 m Other parameters approx. same Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  15. TheEmittanceandCircumference vs. EnergyforTheDifferentLightSourcesAroundtheworld TAC-SI TAC-SI Ref: NomNamkung IPAC2010 Presentation Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013

  16. Conclusions Low emittance storage ring is designed. It is reached to 0.67 nm rad emittance with 467 m ring circumference Nonlinear effects also investigated Different options are compared. It is planned to completethemachinereportincludingmainsub-systemsup to mid of nextyear in paralel to thescientificcasereport. Thanks for your attentions Zafer Nergiz, UPHUK-5, 07.09.2013
