  13. Rich2 Status Photodetectors Housing (Genova) • Photodetectors housing completely redesigned since Jan. 2004 due to much larger heat dissipation requirements than initially foreseen : each HPD plane 2kW instead than ~200 W foreseen in the EDR due to much larger dissipation both of pixel chip (~1.8 W/chip) and associated L0 electronics. • To ease cooling electronics PCB’s (L0, HV, LV) are arranged on the same plane differently from the old design, while the general frame design is retained with proper modifications in order to accommodate the electronic boards. • In new design Cu cooling plates with active C6F12 system in order to cool L0 electronics. • Precision positioning of HPD’s and cooling of pixel chips implemented by means of special mounting cup (spacer) together with cold fingers conducting heat to cooled frames where cooling plates are installed. • HPD signal pinout inserted into a ZIF connector mounted on a special PCB (translator) in turn connected to L0 electronics by means of a couple of Flexible (Kapton) Printed Circuits. Proper termination resistors are implemented on the translator PCB CSN1 Napoli 23/09/2005

  14. Rich2 – Photodetectors Housing (Genova)(1) • EVERY DETECTOR PANEL IS MADE OF AN ARRAY OF HPD COLUMNS • AN EXTERNAL FRAME HOUSES 9 COLUMNS • EVERY COLUMN IS AN INDEPENDENT SUB-ASSEMBLY, THAT CAN BE INTRODUCED AND REMOVED WITHOUT AFFECTING THE NEIGHBOURING COLUMNS • THE PANEL FEATURES X/Y/Z (+/- 2 mm) AS WELL AS ROLL AND PITCH ADJUSTEMENTS • RAILS ARE FITTED ON MAGNETIC SHIELD BASE, TO LET THE SHIELD SLIDE INTO POSITION AND ALLOW LONGITUDINAL ADJUSTMENT • PANEL BASE FEATURES LEVELLING SCREWS, TO ADJUST HEIGHT, ROLL AND PITCH • PANEL BASE FEATURES ALSO TRANSVERSE RAILS TO ADJUST TRANSVERSE POSITION CSN1 Napoli 23/09/2005

  15. Rich2 – Photodetectors Housing (Genova)(2) • EVERY COLUMN HOUSES 16 HPDs • EVERY HPD ASSEMBLY (HPD TUBE + MU-METAL SHIELD) IS INTEGRATED ON A SPACER. AN INTERFACE MODULE WITH KAPTON PIGTAILS CONNECTS THE TUBE TO L0 BOARD • A COOLING PLATE IS FITTED ON ONE SIDE OF THE COLUMN • L0, LV AND HV BOARDS ARE ARRANGED “IN-LINE” BEHIND HPD ASSEMBLIES • Mechanical Construction in well advanced state • Mechanical components mostly built by INFN Genova Workshop (apart from some series production highly repetitive items) • Complete mechanical assembling test foreseen in Genoa in the next 2 weeks before shipment to CERN Translator with ZIF Socket to HPD Kapton Flexies CSN1 Napoli 23/09/2005 same type of installation with same components foreseen for Rich 1
