  1. Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) Project Creating Your Team Storyboard Instructions and Tips for Success

Storyboard Instructions • Assume there is little or no familiarity with your practice, setting, population, improvement aims, or special interests/activities related to improving identification and treatment of infants with NAS. • Use 6 slides (#3-10) in this outline to create a storyboard that describes your team’s work to date with NAS. These slides should be customized to reflect your team’s efforts. Feel free to insert pictures, graphs and narratives to create a storyboard in the format you think best describes your team’s work. Please include 2 PDSA’s completed by your team.(2 PDSA’s for Level 3 teams that started in January; 1 PDSA for Level 2 teams starting in April.) 3 example templates are shown. • When you are finished adapting these slides, make a copy of each one and bring them with you to the Learning Session in Columbus. • You will be given a 2’ x 4’ poster and push pins to attach your storyboard. You will also be given the opportunity during the Learning Session to discuss your storyboard with other teams in your region. Questions? Your Hospital/NICU • Describe: • Your hospital’s location • Demographics of those you serve • Your health system’s community or population characteristics, services, and relationship(s) with specific maternity hospital(s) • Include your mission statement, and/or logo • Include a photo of your hospital if possible Photo courtesy of: blogs.wavy.com

  5. Maternal Opiate Exposure in YOUR community • If available, include any data you have regarding drug usage of pregnant women within your community or region

  6. Your Team • Introduce Your Team Members: • An active, motivated team is a key ingredient to success. Your team members should have knowledge and involvement with the processes involved in identifying and treating babies with NAS • Include names, titles and roles of each of your team members • Include a picture (or individual shots) of your team if possible

  7. Results Unit Protocol Comparison • Include your Unit’s current treatment protocol for infants diagnosed with NAS. Highlight any changes you have made to your protocol since starting the Collaborative.

  9. PDSA • Plan: Briefly describe your test. How will you know change is an improvement? What Key Driver does this test impact? • Do: Test the change. Was the cycle carried out as planned? Record data and observations. • Study: Compare your results to your hypothesis. Did your results match your predictions. • Act: Decided to adapt, adopt, or abandon? Explain why.
