  27. CAMPUS COMPUTER FACILITIES AND SERVICES All students must have access to a personal e-mail account that will enable them to send and obtain messages by electronic mail and can be used for class assignments and for general communication with other students, faculty, and staff.

  28. DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA Smoking for students and staff is restricted to the designated smoking areas. If you are found smoking in a non-designated smoking area it is considered a breach of the Student Code of Conduct and could lead to possible action.

  29. SICK For students who are ill and unable to attend classes, please phone or email your Instructors and leave a message for your instructor. Be sure to speak clearly when leaving your message and state your program (657-6799 or (643-2857). STORM POLICY When a decision is made to cancel classes, an announcement that specifically references NBCC Saint John will be made over radio stations and the NBCC Twitter feed. NBCC is not part of the school district. Every effort will be made to air announcements before 7:00 a.m.  The campus will also have an announcement placed on the main campus telephone line accessed by calling 658-6601 or by calling 65-Storm (657-8676).

  30. COUNSELLING SERVICES A counsellor is available on campus to assist students with personal, academic/educational, and career concerns. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows formal recognition to be given for previously acquired learning or skills related to a course of study which is not recognized through formal transfer of credit mechanisms. Must apply within first two weeks of term. FINANCIAL AID Student Services offers information on resources that are available. BURSARIES AND SCHOLARSHIPS Student Services maintains a listing of Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships.

  31. STUDENT ID CARDS Your ID card is a vital part of your life here on campus as it is required to borrow materials from the library and to access computer labs after class hours . LOCKERS • Students enrolled in full-time programs at the campus will be issued a locker by their instructor. A sign-up sheet will be circulated by your instructor listing the pre-assigned lockers for your program. • NBCC Saint John does not accept responsibility for theft or loss of your tools, books, and personal belongings. Secure your locker and/or toolbox each day before leaving the Campus.

  32. EVACUATION PROCEDURE • Students will vacate the premises according to the instructions provided below. • All students are to: • Move quickly out of the building through • the closest accessible exit. • Refrain from using the elevator. • Assemble at least 25 feet from the building. • Remain outside the building until the all-clear signal is given. • **Students who use wheelchairs or require assistance vacating the building are to ensure their instructor has made appropriate plans to ensure their safe and speedy evacuation.

  33. CAMPUS HEALTH & SAFETY COMMITTEE • The Campus recognizes its responsibility to provide a desirable working and learning environment, which will ensure the health and safety of staff and students. • The Campus Health and Safety Committee meets on a regular basis to make recommendations that promotes continuous improvement of our working and learning environment. • Any concerns about the Campus working and learning environment should be directed to this committee for study.

  34. LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE A lockdown must be initiated when the following announcement is aired on the campus public address (PA) system. The announcement will be repeated 4 times. ATTENTION PLEASE! INITIATE THE LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE IMMEDIATELY. CLEAR ALL HALLWAYS AND OPEN AREAS. REMAIN IN YOUR CLASSROOM UNTIL THE ‘ALL CLEAR’ IS GIVEN BY AUTHORITIES.”

  35. WORKSAFE NB Students are covered by WorkSafe NB if injured performing an activity related to and included in their program curriculum. Coverage is not provided: • If the training takes place via distributed education away from the NBCC controlled facilities. • If the student is engaged in unsupervised independent learning activities away from the NBCC controlled facilities. • If the student is being compensated or paid for their work during a practicum or cooperative work term. • To students taking part in extra-curricular noon hour, evening, and weekend activities on or off-site.

  36. SCENT REDUCED ENVIRONMENT So, what can you do? A simple step to take is don’t wear perfume, cologne, or aftershave when coming on-campus or going out to other being of fellow students and colleagues will be greatly appreciated. Did you know… In Canada; 15 – 20% of the population has some kind of breathing problem.

  38. ATM is located on the first floor of A Building. No Overnight Parking. Please observe speed limits and traffic flow patterns. Other Areas/Items of Interest First Aid stations are located at various locations around the campus. Washrooms are located at various locations around the campus.
