  3. The Magic of the “Emerald Isle” Low mountains, grazing pastures, and peat bogs may seem unspectacular, but the seductive beauty of Ireland will grow on you! Natives say their island is “40 shades of green” with rainbows a’plenty. Ancient, moss-covered ring forts and cairns crouch in lush valleys – stone-strewn monastic ruins and lone castles brave the winds on hilltops – and charming villages dot coastlines of rugged, wave-battered cliffs. The Irish have a reputation as a talkative, athletic, musical, romantic peoples with a “gift of gab”, a warm smile, and an open door!

  5. LIMERICK, IRELAND Arrive in Dublin and board our motor coach to Limerick. We will stay in Limerick 2 nights and use it as our jumping off point for sightseeing. This 1,000 year old city is home to King John’s castle.

  6. Rock of Cashel - Golden Vale On the way to Limerick, we’ll visit the Rock of Cashel – the seat of Ireland’s ancient Kings of Munster (A.D. 300-1100). We’ll see graveyards, a museum, chapels, the cathedral, and the castle.

  7. Gallarus Oratory Center (“Gallarus” rhymes with “walrus.”) Traveling from Limerick to the Dingle Peninsula will take us to this 1300 year old early Christian church. No cement – just finely fitted rocks – still standing and waterproof.

  8. Great Blasket Center The Dingle Peninsula also holds this heritage center focused on the Blasket Islands, Europe’s most westerly land mass. The 3-mile island has an ancient Gaelic history, and was inhabited until 1953.

  9. GALWAY, IRELAND We’ll spend two nights in Galway, sightseeing from this former medieval fishing village, now a bustling international city of 76,000.

  10. Craggaunowen Heritage Center On our way to Galway, we’ll visit this open-air folk museum with it’s 16th century castle and an Iron Age Crannog dwelling that show how folks lived here 2000 years ago.

  11. Cliffs of Moher (“more”) Taking in the majesty of these cliffs, on the way to Galway, should be breathtaking. The cliffs soar near 700 feet above the sea over 5 miles of coastline.

  12. The Burren: “Rocky Place” Shattered & swept bare by glaciers. • We’ll travel through “the Burren” on the way to Galway. • Pre-historic & early Christian sites. • Iron Age stone forts. • Inhabitants arrived 6,000 yrs ago. • Used to be a seabed 250 million years ago when Ireland was at the equator. • Surprisingly, has the greatest diversity of plants in Ireland. 5,000 yr old grave chamber

  13. Dunguaire Castle Medieval Banquet & Performance We’ll dine here our first night in Galway & experience Irish food, music and song!

  14. CONNEMARA COUNTY Day-tripping from Galway, we explore more of Ireland’s small towns, countryside, the majestic Kylemore Abbey, and yet to be announced sites! We have a possible concert planned in the evening.

  15. Clonmacnoise Monastic Site 10th-13th century churches, cathedrals, grave slabs creating evocative ruins sprouting from lush green fields.

  16. Trim Castle On the way to Dublin, we’ll visit the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland, completed in 1220 A.D. The castle was used in the filming of Braveheartin 1994.

  17. Dublin Castle- State Apartments Tour the State Apartments at the Dublin Castle.

  18. Trinity College - Dublin Founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I of England. Women were not admitted until 1903!

  19. Trinity College Library ~Book of Kells~ 1200-year old version of the Bible’s four gospels. Inked and illustrated by Irish monks. Made from calf skin turned into velum. Considered one of the finest pieces of art from the Dark Ages.

  20. KilmainhamGaol This facility was opened in 1796 as Dublin’s county jail and a debtor’s prison. The British used it to house political prisoners. The last prisoner held here was released in 1924, and later became a president of Ireland.

  21. National Museum: Archeology Treasures from the Stone Age to modern times, in Dublin. 2000 yr old bog mummies!
