Afterwards, students in each classroom were divided into two teams and quizzed on the information they learned. - School Day for Non-Violence and Peace. The School Day of Non-Violence and Peace was founded in 1964 and is practised in schools world-wide. Teachers and students of all levels took part in the day's activities, which promoted harmony, tolerance, solidarity, and respect for human rights. Students read poems celebrating peace and sang a song by Juanes, ¨It´s Time to Change Hate for Love¨. To crown the day, students released a white dove. -Book Reports. This month, the Language Assistant introduced “Book Reports” to the students of the Second and Third grade. Once a week, students in each level receive a short book in English which they returned with a completed Book Report the following week. Upon returning a completed Book Report, the students sat down in the English Corner with the Language Assistant to discuss the week's readings. In this way, students simultaneously practised their reading comprehension, writing, and oral skills. - Street signs. Street signs were made to give the school´s corridors English names. With names such as Peace Square and Tolerance Way, these signs reflected themes from the Coeducation and Peace Projects.. - Unit 3: Plants and Animals (Science and Physical Education)

Valentine's Day, or Saint Valentine's Day, is a holiday associated with romantic love. It is celebrated on the 14th of February. On this day friends and lovers traditionally express their sentiments for each other through the exchange of notes in the form of “valentine's” as well as the exchange of flowers and sweets. The students of “Gloria Fuertes” de Jaén celebrated Valentine's Day by exchanging “valentine's,” reciting love poems, and learning the history of the Roman priest and martyr, Saint Valentine. - Tongue Twisters. This month, the Language Assistant implemented Tongue Twisters to practice phonetics with the students. With the aid of eye-catching posters, students regularly repeat the tongue twisters in order to memorize them. This proved to be an effective method to perfect the phonetic sound stressed at the beginning of each word. - Andalucía Day. To celebrate the Día de Andalucía within a bilingual context, students played traditional Andalusian children's games in English. Students from all levels congregated on the school's patio to play different traditional games, each game led by a different tutor. The Bilingual Coordinator and the Language Assistant led the game “pañuelo” in English by making the children count off the numbers in English as well as employing the common game phrase “Ready, Steady, Go!” before calling out the numbers. -Crazy Animal Rhymes. In addition to learning classic English tongue twisters, we created new tongue twisters about ¨Crazy Animals¨. Starting in February, each month students learned two new Crazy Animal Rhymes from colorful posters and completed worksheets to help them memorize the rhymes. Through the rhymes, students practiced their pronunciation and increased their excitement about learning English. -Unit 4:Tools and Machines (Science and Physical Education)

These facts help to instill political and social awareness of the plight of women throughout history and throughout the world. Students categorized jobs into “female” and “male” categories, and later chose their favourite jobs. This stengthened the vocabulary of the different professions, and forced the children to reflect upon whether they perpetuated the professional stereotypes. - Father’s Day. A Reflexion by Sigmund Freud was placed in the staff room. It read: “I can't imagine any greater need during the childhood of a person, than the need to feel protected by a FATHER.” In class, children colored and costructed animal picture frames to gift to their fathers. Inside, the frames read: “Thank you for the love that you give me, Dad. Happy Father's Day!” - Crazy Animal Rhymes. Students practiced pronunciation and increased their excitement about English with this month´s rhymes: “The funny fish finds food without feet” and “The mad mouse has no house, now he lives with the cows.” -Easter. Easter was celebrated in typical American fashion, a big change from the Holy Week processions the children are accustomed to. This helped the children learn about North American culture and examine their own by comparison. Students were shown a colourful posterboard with Easter vocabulary to explain the day's activities. Then, students colour ed a sheet of “Easter Eggs” to hide around the classroom and dyed real Easter eggs. Finally, the children participated in an “Easter Egg Hunt”. - Tongue Twisters. This month's tongue twister was centered on the phonetic sound of the letter “W.” The tongue twister also showed students that same-sounding words in English can have very different meanings (i.e., weather vs. whether). Furthermore, March's tongue twister went beyond simple phonetics by relating to the student's science unit (Unit 10.The Water and the Weather). The poster reinforced weather vocabulary such as cold, hot, etc.
