DANIEL HAAS, CHIPP WORKSHOP ZÜRICH, SEP 2006 JRA1 - General Purpose Infrastructure • Generally applicable: • use for pixel sensors, large volume tracking devices (TPC), other areas (imaging, biology, medical) • large range of conditions (cooling, positioning, magnetic field) • easy to use • Well defined/described interfaces • very high precision • < 2µm precision even at smaller energies • suitable to different test beam environments, rates, energies, … Page 18 DEPARTEMENT DE PHYSIQUE NUCLEAIRE ET CORPUSCULAIRE

DANIEL HAAS, CHIPP WORKSHOP ZÜRICH, SEP 2006 JRA1 - Pixel Telescope • Pixel telescope with sensors that • provide high precision (~ 2 – 4 µm) • with reasonably large area (~ 1 – 2 cm) • can be thinned down (~ 100 µm) • can be read out (relatively) fast (~ kHz) • Start with an existing CMOS MAPS chip • Mimostar 3 by CNRS/IRES (not fast enough, 10-100 Hz) • then go to next generation chip which is fast: • … on chip discriminator and ADC Page 19 DEPARTEMENT DE PHYSIQUE NUCLEAIRE ET CORPUSCULAIRE

DANIEL HAAS, CHIPP WORKSHOP ZÜRICH, SEP 2006 Common DAQ efforts DAQ has been identified as key issue of EUDET • part of the infrastructures • easy-to-use for users • cross-JRA issue • combined testbeam run of several sub-detectors • relations to software framework (→ NA2) DAQ is also an important issue for ILC detectors • EUDET is not going to design/build anything close to the final ILC DAQ system but we must stay connected to the international R&D efforts to go into the same direction Page 25 DEPARTEMENT DE PHYSIQUE NUCLEAIRE ET CORPUSCULAIRE
