  2. Agenda

  3. Group Developement • Role and Responsibilities: • Team Leader: Zain Amid • Time Keeper: Ben Wiley • Scribes: Gabriela Ramirez and Madison Rudolph • Team Constitution • Consider all ideas • Contribute to the completion of the goal • Respect each other • Participate

  4. Time line

  5. Problem Statement • We have been asked by a customer of Alpha Engineering Company, Roadrunner Trucking, to build a can crusher. The can crusher has to reduce the volume of the aluminum cans they dispose of by 70%. Otherwise they will be penalized by $0.05 per can over volume.

  6. Background / Justification • Reduces the amount of aluminum cans in a house or businesses • Easier to store and transport larger quantities in a smaller spaces • Help speed up the process of recycle

  7. Customer • The Roadrunner Trucking Company • Mr. Pritchard

  8. Scope • WE must build a can crusher • It must reduce the volume of aluminum cans at the Roadrunner Trucking Company by 70% • It will be made out of: Wood, metal hinges and brackets, screws and nails. • Help from: • Mr. Pritchard- Construction and Technical • Mr. Hund- CAD • Ms. Hernacki- Calculations and math

  9. Continued Scope • Materials and tools used to complete the project: • Customer Constraints

  10. Deliverables • Can Crusher • The technical report • Power Point • CAD drawings

  11. Brainstorming • How have some crusher designs made to be self-loading? • How can friction be reduced? • Who was the first to invent the can crusher?

  12. Research and Generate Ideas • Most self-loading can crushers have a basket on top and a stopper that allows the can to drop when the leaver is pulled to crush it. • Friction is reduced by adding some kind of lubricant, change the shape, or adding a different material for example plastic is a low surface friction. • The can crusher was first invented by Jesse M. Wright.

  13. Identify Criteria and Constraints • The max space the can crusher can occupy in 18” x 24” x 30” • It must use a minimum of one simple machine • The aluminum can must fall into the aluminum can bin once it is crushed. No human intervention is to be involved. • The aluminum can bin must slide in and out of the crusher.
