Personal Bible Study Consider some of the purposes for personal Bible study, as revealed in the passages on pages 57 and 58.
Making the Time and Gathering the Tools Some very helpful tools include: • a modern translation of the Bible • a notebook and pen • a dictionary • a concordance • a Bible dictionary
Try a Three-Step Approach • Observation • Interpretation • Application
Prayer • Offer praise to God for who He is. • Assent in your spirit to the carrying out of His perfect will. • Place the day’s needs before Him. • As for forgiveness for sin. • Forgive others. • Plead with Him to protect you. • Testify with your whole heart.
Keeping Up with Current Events • To maintain vigilance you must make yourself aware on a daily basis of what’s going on in the world. You should know, for example: • when a hurricane is expected • what alerts are being issued by the Department of Homeland Security • what geological activity is being reported – where and when • what major political events are taking place in the US and abroad – and how those events might effect this country
