  3. What did we learn last time? • Choose safe routes • Use crossings if you can • If there’s no crossing, find somewhere safe – away from parked cars and bends in the road • Stay focussed – never cross while using a mobile or stereo • Don’t trust traffic • Use the Green Cross Code

  4. THINK FIRST • STOP • USE YOUR EYES AND EARS • WAIT UNTIL IT'S SAFE TO CROSS • LOOK AND LISTEN • ARRIVE ALIVE

  5. Where can you go?

  6. Your personal checklist • Money, including some for emergencies • A phone card or mobile phone • Let someone know who you are with • Let someone know where you are going • Work out how to get there • Arrange a time to be home • List of telephone numbers in case you need to ring someone • A plan in case something goes wrong

  7. OUT AND ABOUT • What would you do if? …….

  8. You have missed the bus home Can I go back into school and phone someone? Is there another bus I can catch?

  9. One of your friends asks for a lift on your bike • Best not to risk it! • How good are you at negotiating or saying no?

  10. Two of your friends are fighting on the bus • If you can’t calm the situation down – keep out of the way. • Let the driver know that there is a problem • If things are getting out of hand it may be safer for the bus to be stopped

  11. Need to phone but no money • Make sure you know how to make a reverse charge call • Dial 100 and ask for the operator to connect them to the telephone number that they need • On mobile phones there is the option of dialling 0800 ‘reverse’

  14. Safer journeys Now think walking somewhere new. Picture the journey. Is it as clear? Think about a journey that you know – to school perhaps. Picture the journey in your mind What do you see?

  17. Getting home from school How long will the journey take? What time will I get home? What time will I normally leave? How am I going to travel?

  18. Now think about – What if ……? Money It’s dark – can I be seen easily Bus Pass Cycle Helmet I stay behind at school? Travelcard Have I got lots to carry? Is it raining?
