  2. today’s plan • turn in practice assignments • play with SolidWorks model • redesign dental hygiene process • practice assignment 11 • assignments & announcements

  3. so what, exactly, is SolidWorks?

  4. SolidWorks • computer-aided design (CAD) • draw with increased precision and accuracy • account for material, wall thicknesses, etc. • produce a drawing that can be handed off to manufacturing

  5. a first taste of SolidWorks • six SolidWorks files are posted on blackboard (under syllabus + misc. tab) • download them to your machine

  6. part model open the part model of the dental floss case. notice the dimensioning. rotate the part. look at it from different views.

  7. assembly model open the assembly model of the whole dental floss container. play around. open the assembly drawing. how does this assembly drawing compare to the one you did by hand?

  8. SolidWorks + EGR 101 • final two projects (angry birds + redesign recycling) • between now and then, feel free to play around • SolidWorks 2011 (or 2012) for Designers are good references • SW’s help menu is also useful
