  3. Reading Curriculum • Reading fluency passages • Reading Strategies • Comprehension of fiction and nonfiction text (focus on higher level thinking questions, judgment, analyze) • Vocabulary/Dictionary Skills • Weekly Tests • Formal Assessments • (Galileo and Stanford 10)

  4. Accelerated Reading Program (AR) • What’s the process? • STAR test • How do I know what level my child is reading on? (Homeconnect letter) • Quarter goals/ rewards • Find AR books at home at: www.arbookfind.com

  5. Math • Number sense, place value • Time/Money • Addition/Subtraction with and without regrouping • Graphing • Measurement • Multiplying/Division • (Yes, we start this in 2nd grade!) • Be able to explain or justify answers

  6. Timed Tests • 3 minutes • 50 problems • Must pass to go on to the next number • Addition 1-9 and mixed • Subtraction 1-9 and mixed • Multiplication (1,2,5,10)

  7. Language Arts/Writing • Daily Language Review (Weekly) • Sitton Spelling (Weekly) • High Frequency Words/Dictation (Weekly) • Write from the Beginning • Thinking Maps • Monthly Writing Prompt • Grammar

  8. Social Studies • Communities • Government • Native Americans/Colonies • Holidays Around the World • Asia • Westward Expansion

  9. Science • Matter • Human Body • Weather • Life Cycles (butterflies, insects etc…) • Inventors

Report Cards • Progress reports will be sent home with your child half way through each quarter. • Quarterly report cards will be sent home with your child. • Conferences: October/February • Grading scale for progress report and report card • 4-Exceeds (beyond grade level) • 3-Meets • 2-Approaching • 1-Falls far below

  11. Homework, News, and Daily Behavior Sheet • Homework is given weekly (goes home Friday and due the following Friday) • Classroom news via email, teacher website • Daily Behavior Sheets, please sign after the week is over • Check homework folders nightly!
