  4. Screen Package Philosophy • Must Complete • Get 4+ yards per attempt • Stress Fundamentals/Timing Daily at Practice • Perimeter Blocking • Daily Screen Drill- At least 10-20 min per day • Make the Defense Cover Down on all WR • Use to protect the Box in the Run Game

  5. How Screens Stress the Defense • Make DL Run Laterally and Chase the Ball • Make the defense respect all Eligible WR • Create Mismatches in Space on the Perimeter • Limit the Box Numbers and Fronts we will see • Limit Pressure Fronts • Will make DL play Slow • Suckers and Gadgets will Take Advantage of Teams overplaying the Screens and result in Big Plays

  6. Screen Reminders • Run Screens Even When They Are Not Working • Use in Short Yardage • Use When Coming Off • Use in Red-Zone • Use as a Way to Get the Ball to Your Best Players in Space • Have the Mentality that Screens Are Runs • High Percentage Completion – Block MDM

  7. How We Attack Depth & Leverage • Depth - Must Align within 6 yards of our WR • Leverage- Must align head up to inside shoulder (No-Split the difference) • Numbers- If we have 3 and they have 2 we have numbers • “Protect the Box” – Make them play us honest

  8. No Huddle – No Mercy Offense Types of Screens • Quick Screens • Slow Screens • Double Screens • Screens Packaged with Runs/Quicks • Suckers and Gadgets

  9. Quick Screens • Bubble Screen • Early Screen • Fast Screen – Outside • Fast Screen – Inside

QB Mechanics • Grip it and Rip It – Do not Worry About Laces • Like Shortstop on Double Play • Aim for Facemask of Wr • Must Drill this Daily • Open – Lateral Run- Get Width Now- Keep Shoulders Square • Always Expect Football • Push Numbers to sideline • Get Upfield- Do Not Cut Back Bubble Screen Track

  14. Vs. Bail CornerPush Crack “X” Block vs. Hard Corner • On Bubble Screen if MDM #1 Bails WR #1 will snap his head inside to biggest threat to the play • Blocking Variation vs. Hard Corner • WR #1 will Push-Crack the #2 MDM and Inside WR will Kick-out the Corner

  15. Trips

  16. Empty

  17. Early Motion (RB)

  18. Early Motion (WR)

  19. Early Bubble Screen to Trips • We will use MDM Rules • If Corner Bails Double the Most Dangerous threat and come off to second level defender

  20. Bubble “Sucker”

  21. Bubble X Sucker

  22. Outside WR Fast Screens

  23. QB Mechanics- Fast Screen • Get Ball out Quick • Catchable Ball- Ball Placement is important • Foot Fire to drive off defender at Snap • If Press Man Drive off two steps – push by on third step and get back down the stem • Work back to QB – Catch Ball • Get Vertical for 4 yards then cut off blocks • Be Difficult to Tackle Fast Screen Track

  26. FAST SCREEN

  27. FAST SCREEN- DUECE PERSONNEL

  28. FAST SCREEN- TRIPS

  29. FAST SCREEN- EMPTY

  30. FAST SCREEN – JET MOTION

  31. PLAYSIDE BLOCKINGINSIDE WR – FAST SCREEN • Same as outside Wr fast screen for OL • Trips/ Empty / Quads • Have some action going away from the screen

  32. Inside WR Fast Screen

  33. FAST SCREEN SUCKER

  34. FAST SCREENS ATTACHED TO RUN CONCEPTS • We will attach out base screens to most of our run plays to give us a 2 in 1 play concept on most of our calls • Allows us to control the box numbers and force the defense to defend the entire field every snap • Will change depending on gameplan • QB always has the option to throw the screen • Screen WR should expect ball on every play

  35. Importance of Protecting the Box with Screens • We will dictate that the defense “cover-down” over all of our receivers. We will not allow the defense to bring extra defenders into the box the we can not account for in our blocking schemes. • We have automatic Key Screens Built into our base run concepts where if we have numbers or leverage the quarterback has the option to throw the screen.

  36. Simple Execution- Easy Read for QB • We can attach screens and quicks to most all of our running plays • Easy Pre-Snap Read By Quarterback • Not an audible- The Screen is built into the call the QB has the option to throw the ball to the screen receiver if he feels that we have numbers or leverage • QB can make a “ball” call to RB pre-snap to alert him he is throwing the screen • WR should expect the ball to be thrown on the screen every snap

  37. Power w/ Screen Attached

  38. QB Power w/ Early Screen Attached

  39. Inside Zone W/ Bubble Screen

  40. Inside Zone (Tails) – Early Motion

  41. Slow Screens • Slip Screen (RB) • Play-Action Screens • Slip with Quick Game Attached

  42. QB Mechanics- Slip Screen • 3- Step Drop in Gun- Eyes on Safety- Do not look at the back until late • Feel pressure drift • Get ball to RB – may have to use different release point • If screen is read- Throw ball at RB feet • Step up into protection unit • Be an Actor – Sell Pass Pro • Avoid contact and slide under the Playside tackle block on the Defensive end up the field • Slide outside and find window to QB • Do not be in a hurry RB- Slip Screen Track
