Riga Crypto si lapona Enigel Crypto – prefix care în limba greacă (kryptos) înseamnă „ascuns”. Se regăseşte, în limba română, şi în desemnarea speciei din care face parte „regele-ciupearcă”, criptogramele (grup de plante inferioare, fără flori şi care se înmulţesc prin spori), şi în cuvinte precum criptic, adică ascuns, secret, greu de descifrat.
