The Development Planning Document (DPD) for Tenderden and surrounding rural sites, including Wye, outlines potential developments until 2021. The WYE3 framework focuses on the Imperial College London campus at Wye, recognizing the importance of retaining village identity and meeting infrastructure needs. This presentation highlights the marketing strategy for the campus, aiming to attract sustainable, long-term tenants for educational and research purposes, while addressing both strengths and weaknesses of the site. Ideas for future tenants include private colleges, overseas teaching centers, and research initiatives.

WYE3 PRESENTATION MARCH 24th 2011 WOLFSON LECTURE THEATRE IMPERIAL COLLEGE WYE
WHAT IS DPD AND WHAT IS WYE3? • Ashford Borough Council (ABC) produced a Development Planning Document (DPD) for Tenderden and Rural Sites including Wye • The DPD defined what can and cannot be developed and built between now and 2021 • WYE3 defines the Imperial College London campus • Wye Campus North • The ADAS site • The Kempe Centre, glasshouses, Occupation Road, Withersdane Hopuse and grounds
Document and WYE3 Development Plan Why is the outcome of the Development Plan Document good for the village? • House numbers capped • Infrastructure constraints recognized • Importance of AONB recognized • ABC state commitment to retain Village Identity
Role of WYE3 Group • To monitor Savills’ marketing • To work with Savills and Imperial College to develop contacts • To offer ideas and support • To ensure that an effective marketing project is carried out as specified by the Development Plan Document examination
The marketing exercise • Whole campus to be marketed- from ADAS to Withersdane, including the historic buildings • Lease for 99 years, if commercially acceptable • More than one tenant possible, not a buyer • Educational, research or related business usage
Conditions and Timing • Savills, with Imperial, must produce an active and comprehensive marketing strategy-not simply place a few adverts • Marketing will be continuous for a period of at least six months and will only start when the strategy has been agreed by all three parties
What sort of tenants are needed • Organisations that are…. • Long term • Sustainable • Financially viable • Open to cooperation with other parties and tenants
Strengths and Weakness of Campus Site • Strengths • Historic Site • Location • Environment • Community • Weaknesses • Historic Site • Poor state of repair of some buildings • Energy inefficient design • Poor village infrastructure
Current ideas “on the table” • Private university college, eg. PhoenixWyeCollege • Overseas teaching” centre - an outpost for a foreign university • Science and math teaching centre • A supermarket research centre for “Grow British
Let’s hear some fresh ideas! • They must be… • Long term • Sustainable • Financially viable
