  2. In English • A participle is an adjective formed from a verb. In English, you form the participle of a verb by adding –ed. It often has the same form as the past tense. • My flight is confirmed. (participle) • I confirmed my flight. (past tense)

  3. Past participles describe a noun that has received the action of that verb. • To form the past participle of a regular verb, drop the infinitive ending and add –ado to –ar verbs or –idoto an –er or –ir verb.

  5. Don’t forget • Past participles are adjectives. They must agree with the nouns they describe. • El pasajeestápagado. • Los pasajesestánpagados • La habitaciónestápagada. • Las habitaciónesestánpagadas.

  6. Irregulars • Many common verbs have irregular past participles. Some of them are: • Abrirabierto • Volvervuelto • Hacerhecho • Ponerpuesto • Decirdicho • Escribirescrito

  7. Participial clauses • Past participles can also form participial clauses that tell how, when, or why. The agree in gender and number with the noun being referred to. • Terminadala gira, regresamos al hotel. • Since the tour had ended, we returned to the hotel.

  8. More examples • Unavezllegadasa San Juan, laschicasse alojaron en el mejor hotel. • Once they arrived, the girls stayed at the best hotel. • Unavezconfirmadoel vuelo, empezamos a buscar un hotel. • After our flight was confirmed, we began to look for a hotel.
