HOW HARD IS ISLAND PEAK CLIMBING? -UPDATED (2019) AUTHOR - HIKING NEPAL Island Peak or Imja Tse (6,189m / 20,305 ft) is one of the most popular of Nepal's 33 designated trekking peaks.The peak was named Island Peak in 1953 by members of the British Mount Everest expedition because it appears as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. Climbing Island Peak in Nepal offers breathtaking panoramic views of gigantic mountains -Mt. Lhotse 8501m, Mt. Makalu 8475m, Lhotse Middle Peak 8410 m, Lhotse Shar 8383m, Mt. Nuptse 7879m, Mt. ISLAND PEAK DIFFICULTY The climb to Island Peak is graded as Alpine PD+ —Somewhat difficult A physical fit trekkers with high determination and following the footprints of Sherpa guide will make you succeed in the mission of island peak mountaineering. Island peak expedition is not technically challenging but it can be physically demanding 300m in the beginning and near to the summit requires some technical climbing skills & climbing guide is required to achieve the peak. Not to worry about mountaineering skills Hiking Nepal - climbing experts and guide will train you some basic Mountaineering skills in base camp and high camp. Basic Mountaineering Skills Cover - general rope skills - rappelling, abseiling - ice axe and crampons Pre Physical training like some cardio and couple of miles regular walk will certainly help — prior to your arrival in Kathmandu. 2

  3. OTHER BASIC INFORMATION High Altitude and acclimatization must be taken into consideration because the level of oxygen dramatically decreases. You need to keep your body as hydrated as possible, and cover the distances as slowly as possible. You don’t want to over exert yourself physically so moving slowly each day aids in the acclimatization process. Temperature ranges from +30º C to -15º C So you need to pack right gear, Some are listed below: - Waterproof Shell Jacket, Pant - Down Vest and Jacket - Casual Trekking Clothes - Underwear - Sunglasses (UV Protection) - Head Scarf - Neck Gaiter - Mountaineering Gloves - Light Weight Shoes/Sandal - Trekking Boots - 6000 m Mountaineering Boots - Snow Gaiters Please Include Some Energy light Food— Chocolate bars, Granola bars, Dried fruit, Chocolate-cover Espresso Beans, Caffeinated Gel Packets, Granola & Energy Bars Climbers needs plenty of energy for their climbing day. That’s why we recommend some foods for their journey. If possible, let’s place all them into your backpack. 3

  4. Best Time for Island Peak Climbing April, May, October, and November are the most suitable months for a pleasant and secure climb. The weather is also very suitable during those months. You won’t have to face wet and rainy days.
