  1. 12/18/2009 Jim Dover’s CEO Blog April 2, 2013 National Doctors’ Day The Medical Wizards of OCH is the theme for this year’s Doctors Day, Wednesday, April 3, honoring the brains, heart and courage that O’Connor doctors exhibit every day with the care they provide to our patients. National Doctors’ Day, officially celebrated on March 30 every year, was established to recognize physicians, their work and their contributions to society and the community. The holiday was signed into U.S. law in the early 1990s by President George Bush, but the first observance dates back to 1933 and marks the observance of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery in 1842. Our physicians are among some of the best doctors in the area, as recently noted by US News and World Report. The publication ranked the top physicians in the U.S. and O’Connor had 33 doctors on the list for the San Jose area. The listing, based on a peer-nomination process, included O’Connor doctors in a wide range of specialties such as nephrology, allergy, pediatrics, internal medicine, thoracic and cardiac surgery, gynecology, general surgery, urology, plastic surgery and ophthalmology. Our doctors should also be recognized for their commitment to following best practices in order to provide the highest quality, cost-effective and safest patient care. This is evidenced by the awards and recognitions we continue to receive: a Blue Distinction Center+ for our knee replacement and hip replacement program; an “A” rating for hospital safety and the highest safety ranking in San Jose; and best regional hospital with high performance in orthopedics. Additional recognitions include Joint Commission Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center, and Joint Commission Centers of Excellence for Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement and Wound Care. With founders St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton by their side, our doctors continue to perform miracles every day, taking care of the patient, body, mind and spirit.
