River Severn

1. River Severn The river Severn seeps out of the boggy land in  the Cambrian Mountains of Wales whish are 2,001 ft high (610 m). It is two hundred and twenty miles (354km) long and travels in a semi circle shape through four counties : the Welsh county of Powys and the English counties of Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. It first reaches theBristol Channel and eventually flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The Severn's name comes from the Latin word Sabrina, ("Hafren" in Welsh) which means "boundary". During high tides a wall of water can travel upstream for over 25 miles. This tidal wave is known as the Severn Bore and can make the river deeper by up to 50ft (15m).  Many surfers come and ride the wave at this time. The River Severn is the longest river in Great Britain. It is 6 miles (10 km) longer than the river Thames.

2. Magnificent Severn: surfing the Severn Bore Every year on the 1st and the 2nd of February there is a big wave called the Severn Bore, some surfers surf it. The Severn Bore wave is not that big but it goes on for miles. If you look at the map below some of these places are being flooded badly at the moment E.G. villages near Gloucester.
