  1. Small magnetic elements Judith Palacios USO-SP SCHOOLStockholm-Tammsvik, 2010

  2. USO Trainee in Utrecht : Facular contrast • Currently, PhD student at the University of Valencia, Spain • The rest of the team: Vicente Domingo (supervisor), Iballa Cabello, Laura Balmaceda • Topics: small magnetic elements, vortices, irradiance, SUNRISE/IMaX

  3. Some propaganda... • Announcement of a 2-year POSTDOC position at the University of Valencia Some of the tasks: Explotation of SUNRISE/IMaX data and SO-PHI definition URGENT! SHOULD BE FILLED IN FEB!!

  4. Hinode and SST data A quiet-Sun region on 2007, 29 Sept was selected in the center of the solar disk. A image set was restored from 08:40 UT to 09:20 UT. These data in G-band in SST were rotated and aligned with magnetograms of MgI and CN filtergrams from Hinode. The size of the area of interest (in coincidence with Hinode) is 19”18x74”09. P-modes were removed.

  5. SST DATA PROCESSING Image restoration with MOMFBD (Multi-Frame Blind Deconvolution with Multiple Objects and Phase Diversity). (Courtesy of Iballa Cabello) (Solar Image Restoration by use of Multi-Frame Blind Deconvolution with Multiple Objects and Phase Diversity, van Noort, M.; van der Voort, L.R. and Löfdahl, M. Solar Phys (2005) 228,191.)

  6. SST G-band and MDI magnetogram

  7. Small magnetic elements: recognition of GBPs These GBP were found by the method mentioned in Sánchez Almeida et al 2004. (GBP which appear in the reference frame, stay in an intergranular lane, and in 3 or more snapshots). The calculated area coverage for GBP in the surface is 0.26% . The area coverage in Sánchez Almeida et al is 0.5%

  8. Properties of GBP (SST)

  9. Small magnetic elements: recognition of BP in Hinode CN Multiple-level pattern recognition (MLT_4) of Bovelet, Wiehr 2007. This method was used to detect BP in CN band. Area coverage is 0.22%.

  10. Small magnetic elements: properties of BP in Hinode CN

  11. Recognition of magnetic elements in MgI magnetograms corresponding to CN

  12. Comparison of CN and Gband struct.

  13. More references • Utz et al 2009 make a good statistical study about the real lifetimes of GBPs, considering cadence, splitting rates and proper motions. • About lifetimes: Utz (2009)2.5min De Wijn (2008) 10 min De Wijn (2005) 3.5 min Almeida (2004) <10min
