  3. British History… • January 20th 1936 Edward VIII ascends to the throne. He was popular because: He had visited many parts of the country hit by the economic depression. He was genuinely concerned for the underprivileged. He was known as a brave soldier in the First World War.

  4. Edward VIII 10 December 1936 Edward wished to marry American Wallis Simpson. Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin advised him that the British people would not accept her Faced with losing the woman he loved, Edward chose instead to abdicate. He married Wallace Simpson in France in June 1937. They became the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

Woodfield Schools’ Abdication Day • November 18th – November 25th • Choose your role • Complete a letter of application • November 27th • Applications are judged • Successful applicants & their parents’ will be informed • November 29th • Children take over the abdicated roles! • 1 Infant and 1 Junior pupil will take over each role.

Woodfield Schools’ Abdication Day • Head teacher • If you apply for this role, on November 29th you may be expected to: • Meet and greet parents and pupils at the start / end of day • Take assembly • Correct any inappropriate behaviour in school • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning in lessons • Review children’s work and or skills with them • Decide how to spend school budgets • Plan school improvement actions for the term • AND • Any other action required to ensure the safe and effective running of the school.

Woodfield Schools’ Abdication Day • Deputy & Assistant Headteacher • If you apply for this role, on November 29th you may be expected to: • Meet and greet parents and pupils at the start / end of day • Monitor the quality of teaching and learning in lessons • Interview pupils to monitor the quality of teaching and learning • Deliver staff meetings • Review children’s work and or skills with them • AND • Any other action required to ensure the safe and effective running of the school.

Woodfield Schools’ Abdication Day • School Business Manager • If you apply for this role, on November 29th you may be expected to: • Calculate the cost of planned projects in school • Investigate the best value resources to order for staff and pupils • Interview pupils to evaluate recently purchased items • Undertake general office duties • Meet with senior staff in school to discuss and review planned projects / spending

Woodfield Schools’ Abdication Day • School Secretary • If you apply for this role, on November 29th you may be expected to: • Write / type up documents as requested by the Head teacher • Photocopy and prepare resources as requested by the Head teacher • Answer telephones, take and act on messages • Answer door bells and intercoms and ensure all visitors sign in • Escort visitors to and from their meetings • Count money • Open and distribute post

Woodfield Schools’ Abdication Day • Senior Dinner Supervisor • If you apply for this role, on November 29th you may be expected to: • Ensure the Dinner Supervisors are allocated to lunchtime roles • Address and correct any inappropriate behaviour at dinnertime • Ensure lunchtime clubs are running and staffed appropriately • Organise and play games with children • Help solve any lunchtime problems and disagreements • AND • Any other action required to ensure a safe and happy lunchtime for pupils
