  2. What Are: HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS?

HIGH SCHOOL GRAD REQUIREMENTS • 3 years Social Science ( World History or AP European History, US History, and Govt./Econ) • 4 years English • 2 years Math (must include Algebra 1) • 2 years Science ( 1 year Physical Science and 1 year Biology) • 1 year Fine Art • 2 years Physical Education • 1 year Practical Art (requirement waived if three years of foreign language are completed) • 1 year Health / Careers • Additional credits as needed to complete a total of 230 credits. • Service learning : 10 hours • CAHSEE Math and English

  4. CAHSEE • What is the CAHSEE? • California High School Exit Exam • Is the CAHSEE important? • When do they take the CAHSEE? 1st time: February of 10th grade 5 more times if necessary YES!!!

Parent/Student Portal • What is it? • Provide real time attendance • Grades at each reporting period • Can access teacher’s gradebook if teacher uses ABI • To access: Password and student # were distributed at your middle school, if you did not receive this information please contact Peggy Morgan (ext 61941)

  8. Minimum Requirements A - G • A. Social Science (2 years) • B English (4 years) • C. Mathematics including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2. (3 years min., 4 years recommended) • D. Lab Science (1 year Biology & 1 year Chemistry or Physics) (3 years recommended) • E. Language other than English (2 years min., 3 years recommended) • F. Visual and Performing Arts (1 year of fine art) • G College-prep elective (1 year) *All academic coursework must be completed with a minimum of a “C” grade *Cal State Universities require a minimum of 2.0 academic GPA *University of California require a minimum of 3.0 academic GPA

COLLEGE PREP TIMELINE • Freshman year: -Focus on academic GPA -Complete 10+ Service Learning Hours -Get involved in clubs / organizations • Sophomore year: -Focus on academic GPA (colleges will look at 10th and 11th grade academic grades for admissions) -Register and take PSAT in October (offered once per year) -Volunteer activities / clubs / leadership / work

  10. Interventions • CSF Tutoring: Days & times to be announced. The tutoring will be in all subject areas. • Summer School: Available to students who have failed and are behind in credit. Registration packets are generally available at end of March. • Library resources are available before school, nutrition, lunch and after school.

  11. Tips for Student Success • Attend school on time and regularly. • Use respect when dealing with teachers, peers and others in positions of authority. • Follow dress code. • Cell phone and electronic devices must remain turned off during school hours. (JBHS is not responsible for stolen or lost items) • Use a planner to write down assignments, homework and projects. • Remain in communication with your child about school.

Questions / Concerns • Step 1: Contact the teacher/coach of the class in question: • Voicemail by dialing 558-4777 & the teacher’s extension. • Teachers’ emails/phone extensions listed on www.burbankusd.org/jbhs • Step 2: If the issue is not resolved after communication with teacher, contact your student’s counselor. • .

  13. Attendance • Daily and timely attendance to school is required by law. • Absences MUST be excused within 3 school days. • You may write a note with student name, date of absence, reason for absence and your signature OR call the Attendance Desk with the same information.

  14. Excused Absences • Illness: Students absent more than 14 days as ill with parental notes will be required to provide a doctor’s note for every additional absence due to illness. • Medical appointment. Please bring appropriate documentation from the medical office. • Attendance at a funeral of a family member. • Required appearance in court or appointment with another government agency. Please bring appropriate documentation from the agency. Unexcused Absences • Personal travel • Vacations • Teachers are not required to give make-up work for unexcused absences.

  15. To obtain homework due to an EXCUSED absences: • Contact the counseling assistants at 558-4777 ext 61941 or 61942 if absent for 3 days or more. • Contact the teachers directly by phone or email • Check the teachers’ websites, if available.

  16. Dress Code at JBHS is strictly enforced. Our goal is to maintain an academic environment focused on learning. • NO hats, caps, beanies. All hats, caps and beanies should be out of sight at all times. • Hats, caps and beanies will be taken by Administrators and returned to students on the last day of school. • *please see District Manual for full dress code limitations.

  17. Dress Code • NO spaghetti strap or strapless tops, no cut off shirts which show the mid-section. • NO short shorts or short skirts. • NO jeans or pants with tears or rips in them.

  18. Cell phones, iPods, electronics • All cell phones, iPods/MP3 players, etc. are to be powered OFF and out of sight during the school day. • Texting is NOT allowed during the school day. • iPods and MP3 players must be powered OFF and out of sight during the school day. No exceptions.

  19. Social Media and School • Students who post pictures, comments or other information on social media sites, which are felt to be bullying or threatening will receive school-based consequences. Consequences may include suspension from school. Delete does not mean gone forever! Nothing is gone forever on the internet!

  20. NO Main Office • Money may NOT be dropped off in the main office. • Lunches may be dropped off at front door with campus aide, however JBHS does not assume responsibility for lunches that are dropped off.

  21. 1st day of school: Aug. 18, 2014 • Last day of school: May 28, 2015
