  2. AIM To make a 3d snowflake

  3. MATERIALS REQUIRED

  4. PROCEDURE

  5. STEP 1 Take 6 sheets of square paper and fold them half diagonally and repeat the same step again.

  6. STEP2 Cut three lines parallel to the longest side .

  7. STEP 3 Unfold your paper and turn it so that the diamond shape is facing you.

  8. STEP 4 Keeping your paper diamond side-up, roll the first two innermost paper lines together to form a tube.

  9. STEP 5 Turn the diamond over to the other side. Take the next two paper lines and pull them together on the opposite side of the tube and tape together as before. This will be a more rounded shape and wider than the first tube.

  10. STEP6 Keep turning the paper and joining the paper lines together on opposite side in the same fashion until all paper lines have been joined.

  11. STEP 7 Your flake would be ready. Do the same with all the remaining sheets.

  12. STEP 8 Join 3 of the completed rolled pieces together at one end and staple together using the other hand. Do the other 3 pieces the same way. Now staple both the flakes together to form a complete snowflake.

  13. STEP 9 Staple where each of the 6 arms meet. This ensures that the snowflake shape is pulled into place.

  14. YOUR SNOWFLAKE IS READY

PRECAUTIONS • Be patient when cutting the parallel lines, so that you don't over cut to the other edges or accidentally cut into the line on the opposite side; if this happens, start again with a new piece of paper. • If you want a "perfect" snowflake, make sure the lines you cut are identical for each square. • Work slow and steady. Rushing is likely to lead to a ruined snowflake, or your hands being cut up by scissors.

MATHS INVOLVED IN MAKING A 3D SNOWFLAKE • When we cut the pieces, we cut them in square shapes. • When we cut the folded triangle, we cut symmetrically. • When the snowflake is ready, it is very symmetrical in shape. • Origami is used in making this 3d snowflake, which was used in designing shapes in ancient times.

  17. WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS TOPIC I choose this topic because I thought it would be a challenging one. Although it was fun to do but sometimes it got a bit frustrating as even one mistake caused me to start from square 1. But it was fun to be done and after it was made a hung it as a souvenir in my room.
