  3. Summary • In teaching for transfer, complete and mature understanding ideally involves the full development of all six kinds of understanding: • Explain • Interpret • Apply • Have perspective • Empathize • Have self-knowledge

  4. Facet 1: Explanation • Able to relate and provide thorough accounts of facts and data -revealed through performances or product

  5. Facet 2: Interpretation • Meaning and significance of a given stimuli (dependent upon individuals' prior experiences; everyone is different)

  6. Facet 3: Application • Ability to use knowledge in new situations and diverse, realistic contexts. • Matching knowledge, ideas, actions to a context. • Real world problems - problems posed to children should be close to real situations so they are able to use and apply knowledge learnt.

  7. Facet 4: Perspective • Look deeper, deeper perspective. • Resourcefulness to facilitate the formation of perspective.

  8. Facet 5: Empathy • Moving beyond looking at the ‘surface’, taking into consideration of the value of another individual • (E.g. looking at a point of view from another’s perspective) • Awareness and acceptance of the cultural differences and to keep an open mind

  9. Facet 6: Self-knowledge • To understand the world, there is a need to understand ourselves first. • Knowledge form questions and helps us to form questions and therefore understanding the world better .
