History • created by David Portnoy • founded in 2005 • all writers are typical, every day men • initiated with only a Boston blog, then soon followed a New York version, as well as a female version called StoolLaLa “Our writers are the type of guys you'll bump into at a sports bar skipping work on the first and second days of March Madness. We are the guys who wait in line for Pats playoffs tickets from midnight until 1pm the next day in sub arctic temperatures and honestly think we deserved a shot at being the Sox GM.”

Use and Purpose • used mainly for entertainment to obtain comical media and sports information through videos and articles • covers sports topics, celebrities, current news events, etc • often times articles are taken directly from other sources and just commented on by the website writers and the public • allows people to identify with the person giving them the information • the disclaimer states that “Barstoolsports.com contains published rumors, speculation, assumptions, opinions as well as factual information. Information on this site may or may not be true and not meant to be taken as fact. ”
