  1. Does todays rap affect the minds of teens? By : Ryan Rose & Brianna Bush

  2. Intro. • You parents know what kind of music your teens listen to, but do you pay attention to the lyrics of the songs? Probably not. These lyrics are not meant for growing children. The lyrics in these songs influence your child to try sexual activities. Young children between the ages of 10-16 should not be involved in that activity. These rap songs also promote violence. No child should participate in any sort of violence. Lastly this genre of music encourages youngsters to try alcohol beverages. You must be 21 and over to drink these, but children at the age of 14 are trying these things. Rap music affects the minds of your teens greatly.

  3. Sexual Activities. • Rap songs promote sex. These songs review sex as a good thing. All of the teens will think it is okay and not a bad thing. Once these adolescents’ think sex is okay. They will soon be doing it themselves thinking that there is no harm to it. As we all know sex can cause many diseases such as S.T.D’s, , chlamydia, genital herpes or gonorrhea. Your child will suffer with these diseases all because you don’t monitor their music.

  4. Violence • Not only does rap influence young sex, but it also influences violence or just violence in general. Teen’s look up to these rappers as a role model. When they see these ‘role models’ participating in a violent activity the teen will think this action is acceptable. Well its not. Teens that listen to these violent lyrics are 3 times more likely to hit a teacher rather than a ten who doesn’t listen to this music. These teens are also 2 times more likely to get arrested than your average teen. Rap music influences your child to perform bad behavior.

  5. Alcohol • Lastly, rap music encourages children to start drinking alcohols beverages. Not only is this a bad idea but it is illegal for children under 21 to drink. Alcohol has its fair shares of damages to the body. You can receive alcohol poisoning, cirrhosis, stomach cancer, osteoporosis etc.

  6. Drugs • An example of alcohol and smoking being influenced in rap is • “You’ll catch me at the Smoke-Out smoked out, dropping drinks. Having a blast, not giving a f***, doing my thingBlowing rings through the crowd, being loud and obnoxious” • This is viewing these activities as a good thing.

  7. Language • When teens hear foul language they repeat it. They also could learn new “bad words”. Soon they will use this in their daily vocabulary. This can be traced to a desire to be considered as "cool" by their peers.

  8. Role Model When we are growing up we look to our role models for inspiration and use this as a blueprint for how we should behave when we’re older.  Having the correct role model will ensure that we learn to be successful and adaptive in later life, and that we are happy when we are older having achieved that aim. It’s very important to get the right one then for yourself, and to provide one for your children.

  9. Inappropriate clothing. • The singers in rap music wear inappropriate clothes so then the people listening to it do too. Rappers wear things like saggy pants, chains, tattoos, hats backwards, piercings, clothes to tight, skinny jeans etc.

  10. Increased Crime Music has been blamed for many tragedies over recent years. For example: the Columbine High School massacre being probably the most famous, where two young men shot dead fellow students before committing suicide. It was reported that at the same time the boys were allegedly obsessed with the music of Marylin Manson.

  11. Should Teens Listen To Classical Music Instead? • Making your teen listen to a certain genre of music can limit their individuality. Also sticking to one genre of music can limit their self expression. This is bad. So personally I think you should listen to all kinds of music including rap, but watch how often they listen to it.
