  2. INCIDENCE OF ZIKV IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

KNOWLEDGE & PREVENTION IN T&T • Knowledge of ZIKV (98%) and its link to causing fetal brain abnormalities (including CZS). • T&T population possessed good awareness (87%) on the issue of sexual transmission. • 74.5% (n=298) of T&T population’s displayed positive attitudes on ZIKV prevention . • Only 33% of our respondents were willing to utilize condoms to prevent ZIKV infection.

  4. OPINIONS TO TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY IN T&T • In T&T, it is illegal to terminate a pregnancy, except in case of threat to the life or health of the pregnant woman. • Over 50% of respondents would like to be given the option of terminating a CZS-affected pregnancy.

  5. CONCLUSION • Impact - 5,400 to 14,400 fetuses may have been exposed • Knowledge gap exists with utilizing barrier contraceptives during the ZIKV epidemic. • Participants want the option to terminate a ZIKV-affected pregnancy. • Interventions should be more targeted in improving the knowledge and attitudes of the public based on these findings.
