  6. The Chicago Riots 1968 • The 1968 Democratic National Convention had a significant amount of protest activity. In 1967, protest groups had been promising to come to Chicago and disrupt the convention, and the city promised to maintain law and order. For eight days, protesters and police battled for control of the streets of Chicago, whilst the US Democratic Party met at the convention. Given the atmosphere in the International Amphitheater, one would not think it possible that a major conflict between Chicago police and protesters was taking place just a few miles away. Confrontation in the streets, however, had a greater impact than the seating of racially mixed delegates from southern states, credential and platform battles, and even the presidential nomination. -Wikipedia.org

  7. Stonewall Protests 1967 The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. They are frequently cited as the first instance in American history when people in the homosexual community fought back against a government-sponsored system that persecuted sexual minorities, and they have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world.

  8. University Of Berkeley Protests • http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/calhistory/60s.html On this day hundreds of UC Berkeley students congregated for the first day of protest against a visit by the House Un-American Activities Committee.
