Session Objective Describe how Command Alkon’s Precision Water and Precision Temperature Systems for COMMANDbatchcan improve the quality and consistency of concrete produced, saving time and money for our customers. • With Precision Water System (PWS) the producer can reduce wet/rejected loads, truck in yard time, eliminate load touch up and trips to the slump rack. • Precision Temperature System (PTS) dynamically adjusts water ingredients using a lowest cost method to ensure the concrete maintains the right properties until placement. Why Precision Temperature System? • Hydration is an exothermic reaction, meaning it generates heat, and that reaction goes faster when the concrete is hot. • When the reaction is rapid, the crystals grow quickly but don't have time to grow strong. • Early strength will be higher but 28-day strength suffers. • If the concrete is about 18° hotter than normal (for example, 88° instead of 70°), the ultimate compressive strength will be about 10% lower.   15. Problems with hot concrete As the cement sets up, slump decreases rapidly and more mixing water is needed which can further reduce strength up to 10%. In integrally colored concrete variations in water content can result in significant differences in concrete color between adjacent pours. Problems with Hot Concrete • Thermal cracking – hot concrete will expand more, which means that as it cools it will shrink more and crack. • Crusting – accelerated curing by solar radiation can cause the top surface to set up even though the interior of the concrete is still plastic BAT-001.
