Introduction • We feel it is important that students see how important community helpers are to a community, and the many different ways each community helper contributes.

Activities • Have students make individual mail boxes, write friendly letters, and deliver them to each other. • Have students compare the Pony Express from history and the United States postal system from today. • Have students use geometric shapes to make community helpers, such as a police officer, and then write a few sentences about their community member.
Activities • Plan a field trip to a dental museum. • Have a dentist come in and discuss and show differences between dental tools today and from history.

Have students make a community helper collage and then write a sentence about that person. Have students match ID cards and a picture of a community helper. Have an “occupation in a bag” day where students bring in anything that fits into a brown paper bag that would describe their parents job. Activities
Activities • Designate each week a different community helper. Have students dress like the helper of the week. • Have students determine similarities and differences in community helpers.

Activities • Students will make personalized doctor bags and will decided what they should put in them. • Students will decided who to write letters to and what they need to mail them. • Students will create a grocery store in class after talking with a grocer and decided what to make for dinner.

Activities • Students will draw a picture of a community helper and write down ways that person helps the community. • Students will tour the school and learn about the rules there are. • Students will take part in a mock election.

Activates • Students will set up school community with jobs and community helpers. • Students will build a community using boxes. They will learn to work as a community to achieve a common goal. • Students will take a filed trip to the hospital to see doctors and nurses responsibilities.

Activities • Students will talk about the affects of sugar on their teeth and how a dentist can fix the them. • Students will survey people to see how the community they live in has changed. • Students will use computers to keep track of items bought in classroom shopping and money made from working in their community.
Activities Continued • Students will learn the tools that an architect, painter, landscaper etc uses to help build a community. • Students will learn how a plumber uses plastic plumbing pipes and other tools to make structures.
