  4. Pattern Relationships • The numbers or objects in a pattern can change in predictable ways. They can: • Grow • Shrink • Repeat

  5. Growing Patterns • To grow is to increase or expand • Patterns can be described as growing • Examples: • The shape of a plant can grow as the plant matures • Numbers can increase • Designs can expand Learn more and get some practice, too.

Shrinking Patterns • To shrink is to become smaller or more compacted or to lessen in value. • Patterns can be described as shrinking • Examples: • The height of a snow bank shrinks as spring approaches • Numbers in a pattern can lessen in value • Designs and objects can become compacted or smaller Learn more and get some practice, too.

Repeating Patterns • To repeat is to make appear again • Patterns can be described as repeating • Examples: • Numbers can repeat • Objects and designs can repeat • The seasons of the year repeat from one year to the next Learn more and get some practice, too.
