  1. SEE-GRID-SCI NA4 Progress http://www.see-grid-sci.eu PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 Cevat ŞenerDept. of Computer Engineering,Middle East Technical University, Ankara sener@ceng.metu.edu.tr

  2. Current NA4 Activities PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • NA4.2 Adapt Grid applications • NA4.3 Support the deployed applications

  3. Review Recommendations PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • In the second year of the project, the partners will need to place more emphasis on dissemination of the scientific outputs from the project. • Deliverable NA4.4 due in M24, User Community Engagement and Applications Assessment, should signpost: • the new science / new capabilities developed by the project; • how the scientific state of the art has been advanced by the project; • how the grid has helped advance the science base. • In addition, it will be important to point to scientific papers produced by the project that have appeared in refereed conferences/journals outside the grid community in the scientific field of interest.

  4. Application Dissemination PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Application Web Pages: • To achieve AP#135, application developers are expected to prepare web pages with substantial content on their applications (also, continuing to keep the targeted content at the wiki might be an option if it is appropriate for that full content). • Wiki should hold the rich content for application descriptions or links to the actual web pages. • Still very limited content on the Web! • One application with a web page and a link from wiki to it;Some (ROMS, e.g.) with a web page but w/o link from wiki. • Need immediate action by the developers. • We may also consider having direct links from project web to wiki page of VOs or to application web pages.

  5. Application Dissemination PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • iSGTW Submissions: • Coordinated by NA3. • Developers should follow the submission schedule. • Focus: • Should not limited to the Grid conferences etc. • More emphasis should be given to the publications in our scientific domains: Meteorology, Seismology, Environmental Protection. • Each VO can form (and keep updated) a list of conferences, workshops, journals etc. in the scientific domain for the members to submit their results – VO Leaders + Scientific Representatives can lead this process.

  6. Application Dissemination PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Deployment in production: • Lets have some version deployed in production as early as possible – November 2009, latest. • Should be made available to the scientific community to attract potential users. • Generated results should be disseminated as well. • SEE-GRID-SEE User Forum: • Every application is expected to submit an abstract.

  7. Applications' Progress PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Details are to be covered within the VO presentations. • Critical: CHERS is still behind the schedule. • RO team declared that they are ready to help technically. • However, the problem is now more administrative. • Update in the development timeline needed, and must be strictly obeyed.

  8. New Applications: ROMS and CCIAQ PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • NA4 Application Questionnaire was filled by both of them. • Presentation uploaded to "Downloads > NA4 > Applications_August08" by ROMS only – Expected from CCIAQ as well. • ROMS has no regional collaboration yet! With AL, ME? • Other possible operations: • Filling in JRA1 and SA1 surveys. • Updating the timeline to create the iSGTW articles, e.g. appending ROMS and CCIAQ to M23. • Updating the lists, tables etc. of Envo VO – Wiki has already been updated, but it might be needed to go over the VOMS groups. • Suggestion for VO ASG teams to be formed: • CCIAQ → S.Ivanovska, E.Atanassov + A.Balasko • ROMS → D.Davidovic + N.Frasheri

  9. New Extension: EnviMon to GreenView PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Proposed by MD team. • Goals were clarified, and timeline provided:

  10. Application Accounting PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Here is the current status : • The Seismo VOMS is ready. • Three application groups on the Meteo VOMS:/GR/App/REFS, /RS/App/REFS, /HR/App/WRF-ARW Normally, one group per application is assumed – We should check if it creates any problem for accounting or not? • /GR/App/REFS has two members, but the others have none. • The Envo VOMS not responding: When checked before, there were some –but not all– of the application groups defined on it with the registered users. • A user should declare his/her role using the "voms-proxy-init" command before submitting an application (may not be required if s/he is registered to only one application group).

  11. Application Accounting PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • “Elapsed Time” figures taken from the new interface:

  12. VO Meetings PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • VO meetings (incl. EVO) expected to be held regularly – once bimonthly. • Also, their minutes need to be uploaded to the project web in the SEE-GRID-SCI format. • On the web only the following minutes are available: • Minutes of the EVO-1 Meteorology • Minutes of the EVO-1 Seismology • Minutes of the EVO-2 Meteorology • Others: Not held or Held but their minutes not uploaded?

  13. DNA4.3 – Gridification Guideline PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Draft ToC has been announced by Davor. • It needs to be finalized first. • Contributions expected from Activity / VO Leaders. • By circulating through the e-mails very quickly orby F2F communication during PSC05. • Next, we can create the wiki sections accordingly and assign the responsibilities. • There we can also make use of the "Contribution Policy", "Instructions for Contributions" and the other content left from SEE-GRID2.

  14. Collaboration with GENESI-DR PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Latest status: • They are checking the data access techniques for different data types, formats etc. • The main problem is the certification and the access rights. For each data source two certificates are needed: One certification is given by GENESI-DR portal (ESA), and another one is given by the data owner (the particular data repository). That means for each data source one need different certification. • The GENESI-DR project is on the development as well, and all the problems, and our requirements are resolved on the way.

  15. Action Points PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Application web pages should be completed as described [Developers, October'09] • The iSGTW submissions schedule should be obeyed by the developers. • VO Leaders and Scientific Representatives guide the members for scientific publications by providing a list of scientific events + journals to be targeted [VO Leaders + Scientific Rep., October'09]. • Some version of the applications should be deployed in production and made accessible to the scientific community to attract potential users [Developers, November'09]. • Applications should submit abstract to the User Forum [Developers, September'09]. • The development timeline of CHERS needs to be updated and followed [Neki Frasheri, October'09].

  16. Action Points PSC05, Dubrovnik, 9-11 September 2009 • Regarding our new applications: • The application presentation for CCIAQ should be uploaded [Dimiter Syrakov, September'09]. • Regional collaborations for ROMS [Davor Davidovic, October'09]. • VO ASG teams for ROMS and CCIAQ [Cevat Sener and Alex Stanciu, September'09]. • VOs should make sure that application groups are ready on VOMS, and users declare roles [Technical Rep., September'09]. • VO meetings should be held, and minutes should be uploaded regularly [VO Leaders]. • Members of the collaborating institutes should register to VOMS. • ToC for DNA4.3 should be finalized; corresponding wiki sections should be created and assigned to the relevant teams [Davor Davidovic and Cevat Sener, September'09].
