  2. A man who lost a Bible-quoting competition in Alabama, US, has killed the man who beat him, reports Associated Press. Police said 38-year-old Gabel Taylor was shot once in the face outside his flat in Dadeville. Police are searching for the suspect, whose name hasn't been released and who's believed to have left town. Taylor and the suspect were comparing their Bible knowledge outside the block of flats--each quoting different versions of the same passage. But when the suspect checked his Bible and found he was wrong he shot his rival. The Sydney Morning Herald, Monday, July 22, 1996, p.24.

  3. Colossians 1 15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

  13. Spiritualized Grounded

  14. “In this chapter we have studied relations.  In math, relations are sets of ordered pairs.  In general, people are related when they are connected by marriage or ancestry.  Spiritually, every Christian is related to Jesus Christ and God the Father (Gal 4:1-7 & 1 John 4:14-16) as well as to all other Christians (Eph 2:19).” “In our Christian walk we must prepare by putting on God's armor (Eph 6:10-18).  Likewise we prepare through algebra, developing skill in solving equations and word problems so that we will be ready for future challenges in school and life.”

  15. “We could get students to connect the project with what Paul says about Christians having to run the race…” “We could get students to think about whether it is just to spend that much money on letting a few people race fast cars, and on what the life goals and values of the drivers might be.”

  16. “denying the very distinction between sacred and profane and hence affirming their interpenetration … As a result, certain of the original potentialities of Christian faith … were allowed to develop. The crucial potentiality here was that of conceiving the hallowing of life not as something which takes place only at the limits, as it were, but as a change which can penetrate the full extent of mundane life.” C. Taylor Spiritual bodies (1 Cor 15:44) “unlike ancient Greek and especially Neoplatonic attitudes to spirituality, the patristic mentality, based on a eucharistic approach to life, stressed that being ‘spiritual’ meant accepting and sanctifying the material world and not undermining its importance in any way” J. Zizioulas offer your bodies as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1)

"If the parabola has a minimum, /y/ increases very quickly as /x/ increases,  In this case, the arrows represent larger and larger numbers.  Are large numbers found in the Bible? 22. Fragmented Coherent Spiritualized Grounded Decorative Authoritative Scripture is often used like fortune cookies – random and fragmented. Texts should connect into a coherent whole, and we should attend to their interconnections. Scripture is often connected to topics by mere word association or spiritualization. Texts should genuinely address the topic at hand and not be restricted to personal piety. Scripture is often used as pious decoration. The authority of texts should be illustrated and modeled.

  23. “It has seemed puzzling to me how greatly attached to the Bible you seem to be and yet how much like pagans you handle it… … The great challenge to those of us who wish to take the Bible seriously is to let it teach us its own essential categories; and then for us to think with them, instead of just about them.” Abraham Heschel
